I just got a call from a potential customer who has a number of vultures roosting on his house daily and leaving quite a mess behind. They havent begun tearing the roof up yet but we need a good harassment technique to keep the birds away. Any suggestions?

Im thinking the obama picture would just give them something to aim for and increase the problem. Plus wont it attract more looking for more free handouts.

Get a hold of WS in your area, they can bring out a dead turkey vulture
(a taxi mount) and hang same from the eve of the roof. I t may take a week
or two, but it is one of the best solutions!!

No personal practical experience, but I've heard that laser pointers at night will run them off.

Turkey vultures in Oregon are a protected species and can"t be harrassed or killed except by a special permit from ODFW.

Have you looked at bird exclusion products? Are they sitting on the main ridge of the roof or all over the place?
If down the ridge there are products like flex track (sold by a variety of names from different vendors) that will
provide a "mild but memorable sensation" to move them off. I use it for pigeons all the time and it is immediately
effective.

As the poster from OR stated though, be sure you are following your rules and regs for anything you do.

They are federally protected but by permit we can can harass and repel them. . Effigies, water scarecrows, fireworks worked for me.

If you have good archery skills [effigy placement]. There is work out there if your willing to go after it and travel of work getting them off water tanks, satellite and microwave towers.

I love the stuff! Honestly if it wasn't for cost versus other ledge products I'd have more jobs going with it.
Most of my homeowners like the solar charger option, but birdwire still works on many of the same sites
and even though requires drilling for my setups the cost is still usually less by $1K at least, depending on
size of job.

I think lasers or garden hose will get them from the roof pretty quickly if they have just strted roosting there. When they go to bed they prefer sleeping all night not having some nut disturbing them. They have options make them use them.
If hazing fails get permit and kill one then the hazing effectiveness multiplies.
Effigies and electricity are great also but I think you can change them pretty quickly. Birds are sometimes a management problem where you do some different things and follow Einsteins advice. The answer should be as simple as possible but no simpler.

Sleep'n with an animal..I can help.
Do not use both feet when testing the depth or temperature of the water

As it worked out, the homeowner figured it out on his own. Being a small house, every time he went outside the door would slam and the birds would leave. every time he came home he'd slam the car door and the birds would leave. He kept doing this until they moves moved to another house a few blocks away and haven't been back.
