On the golf course this morning it's cold, all the traps are frozen in the dirt. Where did all those fresh mole hills come from? I have always been told by you northern trappers that the moles went deeper when it got cold, But I counted 31 new mole hills this morning on 18 fairways. Oh well,I picked up 7 moles and put out 9 new sets. Life of a mole trapper. All in fun. H

I have been seeing new boils, but will not set trap until it get warmer. Low % of catches per traps set. It has been warm for this time of year in Michigan but not that warm. Going to get cold this week, in the low 30's hi 20's

I get paid by the month whether I get one or a hundred moles. This is the best way to take care of large properties in my mind. Only one concern, the customer must know that when he stops seeing any mole or gopher sign the problem is not taken care of but I am doing what he hired me for, protecting his property. That is what I was hired for.

Everet. Just took one this weekend from next to my driveway. My first January mole.

I was riding down the road near my house yesterday and noticed about a half dozen new mounds in a yard. Looks like a potential customer, I will definately be talking with them. With the mild winter we are having here, it's looking like a good mole season.

When it gets cold and frozen around here the moles are extremely active. I was setting mole traps today where the mounds were totally frozen, and when I would dig into the tunnels four inches or so below ground, earthworms were all over.

That is the way it is here but I have found that the moles are not as active in the runs. Maybe they are building new runs to keep warm. Ps; got my first gopher for the year yesterday.

Moles will follow the food, as someone said its easier to catch them when it warms up, being in a state where its illegal to trap moles, I tell my clients to wait, they are good with that, I explain to them, that if I catch them in feb and march and even april, there wont be as many youngins comin back around, Ive kept them under reasonable control for 5 years, my customers are happy and ok with me not trapping in the winter, its may, june, july august and september that they dont want to see them, any Ive missed get exterminated with extreme predjudice and urgency....

I do my charging by the mole cash, but that is largely due to the fact that this is an outlaw state and it leaves no paper trail, I have my main job so this is a sideline( I would love to go full bore on mole trapping), but if it was legal here I would probably be inclined to do monthly contracts or a combination of both depending on the client, it is what it is, still, at $40 a mole, I can pull some good cash for about 5 months after hours and feel like like Billy the Kid in the process...

It is'nt illegal to trap moles in Washington, just the trap types you can't use is'nt true. Someone on this forum has come up with live traps for moles.
