This may sound like a dumb question. I live in West Virginia and I want to trap beaver in a small river that is about 10ft wide, the river is not very deep except in a few holes. I see sign where the beaver has cut down a tree in the river, but no other sign than that. Then I'll see another tree cut down maybe 100 yards down the river. I have looked and have not seen a beaver hut or where they have tried to make a dam either. I've seen the same signs like this for the past couple years, so I dont think they are passing through. Also the trees that have been cut are only chewed on a little bit. So my question is how would I set traps to catch these beavers. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

$20.00 trap, a $1.00 stake, probably $1.00 in pan cover, bait, urine, and lure, Not to mention gas etc. All for a $10.00 coyote.Priceless!!!!!

THose beaver floats are cool. Do you use a food based lure or a gland based?

If you can wade the shallower sections, find a pinch point. Look for their runs around the obstructions or under them, for example a downed tree. Plunk a 330 in the run, block it off a little, use a dive stick, and collect your beaver in a day or two.

the beaver's probably have a bank den. first you need to find that. that's what i would do. then i would put a 330 in there.

ready to go trappin!

Woofman,

I use a few split or peeled sticks, and castor lure, in the "bow" of the float.

They were still clawing at the bank where I beached my floats to reset, for a month, after my permits/season ran out.

KY,

My partner and I caught 19 beaver off one farm, in less than 30 days, and we never made a single castor mound. \:\)

10 were in the floats, 6 in conibear crossover/funnel type sets, and 3 in footholds.

Total sets were 12 #330's (3 on floats), and 3 foothold traps.

In my own case, floats out-caught foothold sets 3:1, and other conibear sets by a larger margin than that.

The 9 conibears not used in the floats did increase their total productivity, though, in that they added 5 otters to the take.
