is there an easy way to remove the shoulder grisle from these older boar coon?? i start with a "cross-cut" right below the ears and then push like heck till i get down to the easier part!!

some of these older boars are a real nightmare at times. what are some of your methods??

On some of the tougher ones I take my fleshing knife and use a cutting motion while pushing the knife thru the grisle, kind of like sawing the tough stuff off.

I use the sharp edge of my necker knife and shave it off. Kind of like you would an otter tail. I watched Greg from NAFA do it. Just have to go slow and you will probably cut a few till you get the hang of it. Hope this helps.

I used to try an push all that grizzle off those ring tails. Now I use the sharp side and cut all of the grizzle off. From the ears down about 6-8 inches. Go slow at first untill you get the hang of it, then the speed will come. By far they look alot better doing it this way instead of pushing. You don't get as tired doing them this way because your not pushing with everything you've got, just nice easy strokes.

thanks fellas,

i finished three large boars this evening, 2-32" and 1-36". just like shaving the bottom area of a beaver, worked slick. careful is the key word though.

i can see where it wouldn't be very hard to "slice" one. thanks again,

the grump.
