On the pyros (bangers etc...) thought I'd relate a little tale. ATF called our office when I was still with the govt. and wanted to know
where he could see these units in our warehouse. Now we don't keep any there, so that was easy, but this was a month before this
new law. He wanted to know (this was a local agent) what they were, how they worked and a whole wad of stuff. In the end I sent
him to Reed Joseph as that is their business and they know the laws inside and out.
Within a month the folks who used to buy them through the govt. and other sources and just kept em in the garage, had to get a special
permit, put them out back in a locked shed of a certain type and be a set distance from the house and open to random inspection.
Here in NM, they are widely used for moving sandhill cranes off alfalfa and other ag fields, but now it is tougher, not impossible though
for folks to get the same kind they used to.
Personally I've never used them but do think it is a bummer ATF decided these were so important as to regulate when you can buy buckets
and bags of much worse in your local sporting goods store.
This guy was a "super trooper" too, he was switched on, which as a wildlife disease biologist working on lab results, was an interesting kink
in my day.
Guess he and others decided this was worthy of new regs!
