Does any one use pyros for harrassing wildlife or dam removal?

Explosive Pest Control Devices (Bird bombs, shell crackers, and screamers) are a very popular harassment method for a variety of wildlife (or at least were used before the ATF enforcement began). I've used them for goose harassment with screamers being my favorite followed closely by shell crackers. Since I am refusing to get the "proper" licensing from the ATF shell crackers are no longer an option but Reed Joseph makes a screamer and now a bird bomb that does not require the licensing to purchase or use.

Like everything in this field, they aren't a silver bullet and must be used in conjunction with other methods to achieve a more long term effect. It's also a good idea to check the local laws to make sure using them is legal before shooting them off.

As for using explosives for dam removal, I don't have any experience with that.

Could you use tannerite for dam removal? You can buy the stuff at Gander Mtn. I bet many have used it to get rid of stumps. You set it off with a rifle shot. It's listed as a reactive target.

Just watched some videos of it on youtube. Not sure of the legalities but it works!

On the pyros (bangers etc...) thought I'd relate a little tale. ATF called our office when I was still with the govt. and wanted to know
where he could see these units in our warehouse. Now we don't keep any there, so that was easy, but this was a month before this
new law. He wanted to know (this was a local agent) what they were, how they worked and a whole wad of stuff. In the end I sent
him to Reed Joseph as that is their business and they know the laws inside and out.

Within a month the folks who used to buy them through the govt. and other sources and just kept em in the garage, had to get a special
permit, put them out back in a locked shed of a certain type and be a set distance from the house and open to random inspection.

Here in NM, they are widely used for moving sandhill cranes off alfalfa and other ag fields, but now it is tougher, not impossible though
for folks to get the same kind they used to.

Personally I've never used them but do think it is a bummer ATF decided these were so important as to regulate when you can buy buckets
and bags of much worse in your local sporting goods store.

This guy was a "super trooper" too, he was switched on, which as a wildlife disease biologist working on lab results, was an interesting kink
in my day.

Guess he and others decided this was worthy of new regs!

I'd like to try it! If not for removal then just for fun.

I kept wondering why they would call stuff that could cause explosions tannerite. Then it came to me: my second oldest grandchild is named Tanner. A perfect fit!
