The "better" half came with me today so I figured I would let her do some work.




Even let her attempt her first dirt hole set.


Will see tomorrow how she did. I was only able to put out a small amount of traps. Weather is just not cooperating this week.

Love that top picture. I really miss the snowy winters down here, as to me that is when winter fur trapping is the most enjoyable. Plus, it's easier to pull traps and catches in the sled instead of carrying them in a packbasket!

My wife has made many trips with me on the winter trapline, and I'm not sure if she enjoyed ANY of them! I beg her to go once a year, and have a tendency to pick the days when we get freezing rain, sleet, or 35 MPH winds.... or all three.

I remember a beaver trapping trip, using my jon boat on a city lake. Freezing rain was so bad I couldn't hang on to the oars. She had her hood pulled almost closed, but I'm sure I didn't want to see the look in her eyes at that point anyway. I was singing as I rowed the entire length of the lake to get back to the truck.

Also had a bad day when she got stuck trying to walk across a large swamp in a pair of my hip waders which were too big for her. She sunk into the mud and it was truly a scary situation, as I then got stuck trying to get her out. Thought someone would find our 2 skeletons in hip boots in the spring.

Ron I love it when she comes with and she seems to enjoy it. I also try to make the kids go with a few times a year but they hate it.

Lucky for me she not only has her trapping license she is also licensed to do pest control so I get to send her out on service calls also. She can't handle anything big (raccoons on a roof, beaver, or K9's) but she is a go getter for squirrels, voles, chipmunks, and all the pest control jobs.

I wish I had the camera when she was climbing around the rafters of a dance studio looking for a squirrel. Head to toe dust that has been on those rafters since the building was built in the early 1900's. Great memories.

I will be up on Thursday solo and then the whole family will be heading back up that way on Friday. Imagine my excitement to do that drive multiple times that week.
