I figured you thought that one through already. As I suspected!

When I researched options for a client here in NM I found a myriad of options for hook ups.
As most probably know there are options for everything from your hunting camp in brown bear
country, to portable rigs and more permanent options.
Though I grew up a country boy with electric fencing always being around, I hadn't though much
about the factors of setting it up successfully for black bear. Have also done research into setups
for deer, which are also great for the right situation and environment.
Grounding, soil types, etc... plus they make very important tips about making sure the bear
doesn't get through once on you before you employ the fence as they are more likely to tolerate
the negative reinforcement.
Some other tips included laying the cattle panel or wire mesh on the ground outside your fence
perimeter which provides a mat to help ground the bear and deliver the proper charge.
On a side note, the lady I consulted for on the bear issue had an electrician locally install hers and he
ran it through every plant he could find, hooked it with very inferior poles and just in general set her
up to fail. With some tips though to his credit he came out and remedied the situation and didn't charge
her for the fixes.
I completely understand the issues though with being portable and the more moving parts the worse for
some folks. Time is money and balancing the threat with the costs too I'd imagine.
Good topic!
