ok i got some new traps...

and before i dye them i obviously need to remove the oil that is on them....

would carb cleaner work?
mike told me i could use tolite bowl cleaner

if i let em sit in the rain for a little and rust would oil still be on them??? or what

If you use toilet bowl cleaner, you need to boil them in it. It basically using the same principal as boiling them in lye water. Straight lye is harder to find. If you can find it, I use Red Devil lye which I buy at the grocery store. I use 1 container of lye per 10 gallons of water. I boil them for about an hour, then skim the scum off the top of the water. Remove the traps, rinse them off with a hose and then lay them out on the ground where they will draw dampness to form a thin layer of rust.
I have never used carborator cleaner.

Dishwasher!! Works awsome, they even come out with a small bit of rust. A good head start for the dye.

Just put the reg dishwashing detergent in there. Just like your washing dish's. Put the chains between the jaws so they dont flop around. It wont hurt the dishwasher at all. No different than washing greasy pots and pans.

so here in a day il put em in there and them ill dip em in some f-1 or maybe ill wait till this summer... if i can

engine degreaser works better, rinse good, then put in ma's dishwasher, lol

WARNING!!!!

When using the dishwasher, be very sure to fix the chains so they won't hang down and get caught in any moving parts.

Dishwashers have rotating arms. If a chain is hanging down you will cause some expensive damage.

Ball them together with a plastic cable tie, or string or something.

Dishwasher will do just fine, but MAN your mom will hit the roof if you break it.

Got a plastic cable tie? You know what I mean, those things that zip?

If not, use some string and tie the chains into a ball, running the string through the links so they absolutely CAN'T hang down even an inch below the basket. Not at all.

It doesn't take much to screw up a dishwasher.

she said it left a flim on the dishes.... this is why they dont use it much which is proally the reason i can use it lol

Sitting them outside will not wash it off. You need to use the dishwasher or boild them in baking soda water then put them outside. I would also put a little dishwasher powder in with the baking soda.

Detergent is an interesting chemical compound. It allows water and oil to mix and then has the ability to suspend the combination in the water and let it be rinsed away.

All that I have ever done to remove the oil is to put them in a can with some gasoline and swish them around a little. Works for me! Maybe that's too simple??

That's what I do...engine degreaser and into the dishwasher.

If you're in a pinch, and can't boil, Dollar Store oven cleaner will work, just make sure to RINSE the oven cleaner off completely. Boiling is preferred, though.
