I've been thinking about offering an extended warranty for my bat exclusions. Most of the homes that I encounter are 10 years or less in age. Maybe an annual inspection fee like a termite treatment renewal. The first couple years free then additional years there would be a charge to extended the warranty. I feel that would be a good selling point plus a great residual money maker.

Depending on your price structure this can be a bank or bust undertaking

often for the 200-400 price that can be obtained, you will spend more time securing the envelope then the money allows

We all know that lifetime caulk means the "lifetime of the caulk" no ours or theirs (this is why I recoment using "other" building appropriate material

It "can" be a way to reintroduce you name to past client to increase referral services

We have a fixed time warranty that comes with it and do look for "other materials" as Vinke mentioned to prevent the caulk issues, though we do use that too. I typically email with each bat exclusion client so I have that as an easy contact for the following year to check in. I do understand and it seems smart to "upsell" the added years, nothing wrong with that.

I definitely know that offering the warranty in some markets will put you ahead of competition and I've had many folks for both birds and bats say the warranty made a difference to them.

We push that we are there for them, period. If something is on me for my workmanship I'm fixing it, my reputation is the only thing I have to go from. We do incorporate costs but each is different depending on your business structure and costs.

I also agree with Vinke, depends on the level of the job price wise, though we warranty all work, the lower end the value isn't as much there for the client I think. It is like someone asking me to buy $40.00 worth of replacement insurance on a $200.00 tool with a 3 year manu. warranty....nope.

Don't offer a warranty extension, instead offer a separate service that can be purchased on a yearly basis. The service can be called a maintenance plan, protection plan, or whatever the business wants for marketing purposes. What it is called isn't as important as what the service is.

Include an inspection of the structure along with any repairs to work the business (and only the business) performed. Make sure the service is defined in such a manner that it allows upselling to fix issues that occur on areas that weren't originally worked on should there be problems. Structured properly, this can be offered to any client regardless of the amount of work that was performed.
