How many guys sell extras? I sold some gutter cleaning today on a squirrel job. Good little bonus for a little time extra. If you do, what do you sell?

I do, I do, I do; I had this really hot customer with a really crabby husband. I offered to "take care" of the situation. ( I think she's mulling it over )

Just finished up a job removing beaver from a customers creek that had some large log jams up stream from a culvert he just put it. After we removed the beaver we walked the creek with the customer pointing out the large log jams and the risk of them blowing out the culvert he hired us to remove them. It was perfect timing also because my son was home from college for spring break so I was able to stay dry throughout the removal process. Not sure if he planned to remove logs all spring break, but it was a good time and a nice little extra.

I have been notice lately that all these little extras can really add up along with providing a quality service for the customers.

I started to offer this but someone beat me to it :-)

Actually, dryer vent cleanouts & rodent guards offer real value and are great upsells when needed. I can usually do this and add the rodent guard in 30 min depending on siding or brick. I also do sagging gate repairs (very popular), deck exclusions, vent screening and repair or replace access doors. These are all things I can do while on site or with one return trip and can be very profitable for a one man show.

I make a living selling extras.

We just sold a new second story deck for a house. Current one is really rotted.

Gutter clean outs are the easiest upsell (you already have the ladder on the house) and are even easier to sell if you take a few pictures of how dirty they are.

Second easiest upsell is vent covers (bathroom, dryer, kitchen, chimney caps) I keep the trucks stocked.

We have replaced roofs on houses, done siding, all new gutters, we even remodeled a kitchen out of a squirrel job.

Animals get us in the door, my excellent listening skills and sales pitch make us money.

The customers tell you everything you need to hear. Had a bat exclusion last fall that the customer said she hated the second floor ceiling. Told her we could rip it out and give her exactly what she wanted.

Another job last year complained they wish they had screen doors so they could keep the primary door open in the summer. They now have three beautiful new screen doors.

A raccoon job ended up with us giving them a new garage door.

I could go on and on.

I am finding out if you can show up when you said you would, do what you said you would, and not seem hopped up on something, you are ahead of about 90% of the population. Fixed a toilet on a skunk job, how's that for an add on.

Mike - what's a "rodent guard"? The double-flap vent hoods as sold by WCS? I do like those!
Gate repairs: do you use a turnbuckle rod or something additional?
