Just read there has been a law introduced here in NC to out law the use of conibears with an opening larger than 7 inches for land sets and all others must be completely submerged.

I promote setting body grips completely under water in my videos, but there are always situations where they need to be set exposed. I don,t think that is right in all situations.

We have a law here that limits to 10' of water. Maybe you could get a stipulation like that.

We don,t need more regulation, but more education, to have more responsibility as to the sets.

Kirk not all of us target only beaver I use conibears from rats and squirrels to skunk coon and even fox at times. Give em wet fur and dont stop till their done floppin . . .

All the work that I do is either inside,crawlspaces or roofs. I use a lot of conibears.

i dont think a CO will be checking attics. and whu whould you need a coni over 7 inches in a attic you can catch coons in a 160

That is why I said, we don,t need more regulation and there are exceptions.

At most of those hearings, for regulation, few have very little experience, professional or not.

2 AN ACT TO AMEND THE TRAPPING LAW RELATING TO CONIBEAR TYPE TRAPS.
3 The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts:
4 SECTION 1. G.S. 113-291.6(d) reads as rewritten:
5 "(d) Conibear type traps that have an inside jaw spread or opening (width or height)
6 greater than seven and one-half inches and no larger than 26 inches in width and 12 inches in
7 height may only be set in the water and in areas in which beaver and otter may be lawfully
8 trapped. For the purposes of this section:

A water-set trap is one totally covered by water with the anchor secured in water deep enough to drown the animal trapped quickly.
In areas of tidal waters, the mean high water is considered covering water.
In reservoir areas, covering water is the low water level prevailing during the preceding 24 hours.
Marshland, as defined in G.S. 113-229(n)(3), is not considered dry land."

Looks like there looking to band all traps set in shallow water as well . Drown slides on both conibears and leg holds is what it looks like . Bill was started by hound hunters
