A useful tool to locate coon babies in particular is an electronic wildlife caller. It will many times make the babies start chittering or the mother show herself.
If you are going to take it in the attic I would set it down a short distance from myself because the coon may come aggressively to the sound. If you are a coon wrangler I think it would increase your chances of capture if the animal is focused elsewhere.
Sometimes particularly with a positive set conibear a cage sometimes you can call the coon out into the trap. It doesn't work all of time but it does some of the time. Worth a try and it impresses your customer especially when it works. You are not going to chase them out with it so the sound needs to come from the outside for this technique. Set it up near but out of sight of the entry hole or chimney. Get out of sight hit the remote and listen for the trap firing.
I wouldn't use the positive conibear during birthing season as it will ruin your reputation.
I'll let Dave S. tell his amusing story as to why it is called a caller and not a driver. It worked but he had the caller and his wife on the wrong end of the chimney.

My to pro works great for that. Use it all the time. Pretty fun to see the customers face.

I used my coon call once in a tight spot and was face to face with the critter in about 2.5 seconds. Exciting was an understatement !

What Baxter said plus an aggressive raccoon will bring an aggressive female. As important as to which sound is out of sight and probably smell or you will just get a look.

In use my mouth. I will do a pup chatter with some whines from in a the room I suspect the coons are close to. The female will move across the ceiling or knee wall and come right to the other side of the wall may times hear her sniffing at the wall. the pups will start to talk and it will give me a good starting point. if the pups are older the sow will many time be away from them. she will still come and check me out. as soon as the pups hear her moving or me they will start to call.

if in the attic things can get very serious fast.

The wildlife caller is for people not as good as Jonesie with his mouth except the wildlife caller can take the attention away from you if needed. Charles that is a very useful tool and good pictures.

I was just diggin you a little bit Ron I've heard you calling with just your mouth and it was very good. I can't figure out how to say that without it sounding juvinile and weird.
Tune into Robb's next pod cast and we will talk Ron into a demo. of his coon and other animals;-)

Adam,

I5 model. Works on bats like a charm. Really shines on ER jobs for a bat inside of home. You know the job where you walk into the bedroom where they have "isolated" the bat and it looks like the open closets are puking clothes...going through those garments one by one is a thing of the past. Not tried on mice. Chipmunk sized animal should be easy. I can touch a wall with my finger for a second and you can clearly see where I touched. Had a weird experience with it today going across wall and went over a picture and got a hit. The unit was picking up my heat signature in reflection could see my face lit up white on FLIR screen clearly in glass over picture.
