Is there possibly some kind of preservative you could but in it to make it keep possibly indefinitely, or maybe just a year or so

I dunno... it's been said that dorito chips and two drops of muskrat urine per hay set is the secret mojo for high-volume fox trapping <inside joke>

but this 37" clear cherry male and a number of other old males in the heart of mating season stuck their paws out last winter for a closer whiff of bacon-grease concoction similar to listed in the OP. I have been taught directly by fox themselves out on my actual traplines that bait scents are equally effective as gland/urine scents, and this mix works well for coon in DPs, too.

Is there any other additives you would recommend or just the beaver castor?

Yesterday, I took a quart of bacon grease, half gallon of fryer grease, a pint of fish brine, fried chicken scraps, a half cup of sugar, and a cup of fish meal, mixed it up. Went to a few of my locations, augured in a 2 inch hole 16 inches deep with an RK auger, filled the holes full of this, and we will see what happens.

Any guesses? Keep y'all posted.

On the way home from work, I checked 3 of the 8 locations I baited, one wasn't touched, the other two were dug out big time, so far so good, fox, coyote and coon tracks.

Total 4 dug out out of 8 . The bacon grease mixture is good , I was just off location at the other bait holes.

The ones that were dug out were completely cratered to the bottom, mostly by fox. Also raccoon and coyote tracks again. One wolf track, but he just looked and did a territorial "kick back" took a couple more days till a fox dug that one out . The wolf probably peed nearby.
One active bait, I installed a burnt stick scent post 30 feet downwind and put a dab of Cavens fox gland lure on it. The fox dug up all the loose dirt where I would bed a trap . They also dug up spots that looked similar to the bait holes , that I never went near. They must be looking for bait in any loose, disturbed looking spot .

I would put out a trail cam if it wouldn't get stolen.

good idea! A friend of mine said you better take money. There is nothing worse than being at Heaven's gate and not being on the list. And then you find out there is a cover charge.
I copied your signature awhile back and pasted it on Face Book!

Your screen name reminds me of my drill instructor days at Parris Island. Seems I used the word 'faster' quite a bit.
