I prefer grape jelly on bread. BBQ sauce works well on skunk though. Helps hide the taste.

As I recall, Billy doesn't actually use anything himself. If you watch carefully, you can usually see him carry a Havahart to the set but then when he has a catch, it's in an entirely different brand of trap. I think he has a Master's pest control license and he's pretty good with the bugs, but he leaves catching wildlife up to the pros and they don't use Havaharts.

Said for years someone should make a mulberrie base bait for skunks back when we still had skunks I remember them good old days people caling reporting a hurd of skunks under there niegbors mulberry tree all times of the day . The skunks would be living under there shed or deck ect . I'm sure if grapes were falling to the ground skunks would be eating but that time of the year skunk can be trapped with anything . Skunks can be very narrow minded at times of the year on what they eat . Found some skunk droppings the other day it was full of earth worm casting and small leaves .I made a bucket of skunk bait the other day . Took 4 lbs of bacon left it sit out at room temp for two weeks to sour then fried it crispy then added 1 pound of extra sharp cheddar cheese then fried that in . Holy cow it was hard to not dig in because it sure smells good . I haven't caught any skunks with it but I haven't caught any skunks all year ether . I did see one . Never caught one single skunk fur trapping last year ether .

Sounds like they would like the prickly pear jelly too Vinke. We use to go out and get some and the wife would make prickly pear jelly when they were ripe. smile That stuff was always in coyote scat too when the pears were ripe.Lots of runny purple poop.We did see a fella one time with some kind of tongs. We started talking and he was getting rattlers out of those pear bushes.Man the wife had no idea as he explained that about 1 out of 3 he usually got one.Wife got a little more cautious then and I don't think putting her hand way back there in those bushes no more. That thing with Billy made me laugh as I think in that episode he said there was nothing better then grape jelly. And to think I did a many of ADC skunks and never new that. smirk

I seen that guy use a pack of pre seasoned chicken breasts for opossum. His bait bill must be outrageous.

Fruit jelly can be used in an emergency.

I have mine made special order. Or I should say Daddy Mac (my younguns' name for my dad) makes special runs just for my girls, his grand daughters., and no I'd never use it as bait. I'm lucky if I can get a spoonful for my biscuit.

Baxter gets the award for this topic. I can see the headlines in California now: No need for lobster tails or caviar, I have caught many opossums on pre-seasoned chicken breast. ( Obviously this mammal doesn't have the refined palate that we thought he had )

We're working on a coupon for a free pre-seasoned turkey breast.

You do realize I don't use that crap? I use pre-seasoned carne asada. Opossums down here have a taste for mexican food.
