I pay $33 for a roll of 2 ft. x 50 ft. hardware cloth at Fleet & Farm. Is it worth my time to look for a better price?

How do you like the coated wire? Seems that it would really stand up over time plus blend well into the shadows.

Paul that is cheaper than the stuff at Menards.

I started buying a much higher quality wire and just added the cost to the estimate. So I am now charging $18/foot for soft easy ground and as much as $25/foot for rocky or brush/roots.

Really like the vinyl coated. Better have good snips to trim the edges.

How is it to work with? Does it form well or want to spring back?

Takes shapes real well especially if it is warm. It seems the vinyl/pvc really helps you bend it, easier on the hands too.

expensive to ship to bumf###,MT but good mostly US made wire. I did 250ft of 1/2x1/2 vinyl coated on two decks last year, looks great.

Jim: Not a whole lot of difference between 1/4 inch and 1/2 inch at Fleet.

Baxter: Does coated come in different colors?

Nate: Menard prices suck and I don't know why, but we could boost our prices.

Dave: Thanks, I believe that's the website I was looking for.

Paul, I get the black. It might come in green to. If customer wants ill paint it for them. Normally paint it a primer gray and it disappears. If you put the black on a wrought iron black fence you really can't see it.

AAron, In So Cal., its a smart move to use coated wire because of the salt in the air. It wouldn't make sense to me to have different wire for inland and other for the coast. Animals have no problem blowing through weakened screens that cover crawl space access points.

Manards had a sale ended 3-21 but they had 3' x 25' 1/2" and 1/4" for 24.95 and 2'x25 rolls for 14.95 . Normaly there high on it but to my surprise it was cheaper then anywhere else around here

Paul,

Look at what gauge your buying. Home Depot has 1/2" 2 x 25 19 ga listed oline at $33.47 a roll. If you're getting an additional 25 feet of the same stuff for the same price I'd say you've got a deal going on. But if it is 28 ga or 32 ga, it might not be the deal it appears to be.

The wire I prefer to use I get from Louis E. Page http://www.louispage.com/welded-wire-mesh/vinyl-coated---vc/ and it is the 1/4" black vinyl coated wire. It cuts easy and doesn't scratch up my hands like the galvanized wire does. I've used it for raccoons down to bats without any issues. It is listed at 23 ga core but that is before you include the vinyl so it is closer to a 19 - 21 ga when you're done. It is easy to work with and I holds paint very well when I need to do a color match.

I used to buy from the Wire Cloth Man, but I've had issue with them so I changed. Last I knew they only sold it in 48" by 100' rolls so it had to ship freight. Page sells it in 24" x 100', 36" by 100' and 48" by 100'. I primarily buy the 24 and 36 rolls as they are easier to work with. Due to their smaller size, another great thing about the wire is that it ships via UPS which saves me money.
