Hello All,

I am looking at getting a smart phone, tablet, and laptop computer. I want them all to be able to interface.

My smart phone I plan on using for credit card/paypal payment processing. The tablet I will keep my schedule, invoicing, and contracts. I want to be able to send the contract to the client after he has signed the contract on my tablet. The laptop I will use for quickbooks.

What do you all use?

Thanks

Chuck

You do know, that you can do all of that on any of those devices right? The bigger screen on the laptop is nice. Lots of people cary a laptop and a smart phone. Most people wish they didnt have a tablet.

We've been using this high tech calculator for some time now. It's called an abacus.

I've really enjoyed my android tablet with a blue tooth keyboard. Haven't picked my laptop up since. I use the table for everything.. one thingit is great for is taking pictures of a job and drawing on the picture to point out the problem areas. I then email that to the customer( really helps sell big jobs) or my crew. That way everybody is on the same page with what I want done.

I'm now using an iPad mini activated on the cell network. So far I'm loving it.

It is a question of software, rather than of devices.

Building on what DaveK said, it is matter of what are you trying to accomplish verses what works best.

If you want to print an invoice, you will need a printer. Now the question becomes, what device(s) do I need for the printer to work.

If you want to run QuickBooks, do you want to run it only at the office or also on the road? Will you be doing the online version or the do you want the files local? Per my wife who is a QuickBooks Diamond Advisor, the online version is very limited and difficult to work with. From my perspective having worked with computers, online is a security risk and what do you do when you can't connect to it?

Will you be doing a lot a photographs of jobs for proposals, status updates, or even to CYB? If yes, where will you be storing them and what programs are required to use them as you desire?

Then think if there are other benefits or problems to using the devices you've identified. As I put in the Square thread, there is an issue with using it on a phone versus iPad/Tablet in my opinion. But if you really want your inspection photographs to pop, display them on an iPad instead of your phone or camera. Not only do you have much better resolution, but you have a much bigger screen to show from.
