Ran into some poop in a crawlspace today, looked like flying squirrel toilets. The entrance appears to be under the foundation. Attics are clean. Could it be chipmunks? Do they make toilets? I forgot my camera, but it looks like a can of fishing worms all matted together, but brown. Maybe rat diameter, indiviual stool length anywhere from a little longer than a normal rat turd to an inch and a half long, but folded around. Looks like it happened last winter, when chipmunks should have been hibernating. Could flyers use a ground level entry hole? They went up and into insulation between the floor joists. Three toilets in about a roughly 24 foot square area. Crawlspace depth from two to six feet.
Anybody run into anything like this?

Definently not flier. Sounds strange, but I have seen toads droppings that look just like what you are talking about. Need pictures

Yeah, sorry for the no pictures thing, it always happens like that. I don't think a toad could have gotten up there. Toilets are anywhwere from a handful to a hat full. It looks almost like bat poop, but too extruded and squiggly, and stuck together. I have seen field vole nests in round bales stored outside that had droppings that looked almost the same.

I will go with voles. And a bid for pouring some concrete in the foundation gaps. The blacksnake that shed his skin in there that caused me to get called should sort out the vole problem!

I'm going with voles. That particular species has two intestines just like us. Only he has a large intestines and a triple X intestines.

Shrews are primarily solitary creatures for the most part while voles are colonization rodents establishing toileting stations at times for many animals to use in that immediate area. Sill plate areas that have easy access to the exterior are common chosen toilet areas for voles.

That looks very similar but mine was slightly more elongated. Looked very similar to what sometimes leaks out of a bad grease fitting, only made out of dung instead of grease. I will give some credence to the shrew theory because I thought I saw insect parts in some of it. Maybe it was voles that were eaten by shrews that were then eaten by a black rat snake. Either way I think some foundation sealing will help the place. If the guy has me do the work I will take pictures.

My guess is shrews; they're crappin' machines, and turds smell like bat droppings.
