I just recived word from the wife that "wet" fur/animals are no longer welcome in the basement. Last year I was allowed to dry rats & mink. This year nothing, especially raccoon, which is going to be a problem as I am extending my waterline.

I have an old garage/fur shed but it is uninsulated and very inefficient to heat.

Any suggestions on what I can do. Insulating the garage is not an option. I have fans and a small propane "can" heater.

All ideas welcome at this point.

On sunny days where there is no chance of rain/snow, place your pelts outside where its sunny and wind can hit the furs.

lol, use a friends house then next spring work on the fur shed.

Would it be feasible to build a small 4'x8' rectangular drying box, vented of course. Drying fur at a friends is more than likely impossible and I would rather not try to work with wisconsin weather.

Keep the ideas coming. I know this is last minute but just got word of this "issue" yesterday.

buy a lock for the basement door.

Use your propane heater to warm the shed up for about an hour, then leave a fan on over night. Fur doesn't have to be real warm to dry if the fan is on it.

teal, I'm in the same boat. No more critters in the basement. I'm going use the garage but I have no heat or insulation either. I was told that the fans will dry furs even if its freezing as long as the air is moving on them.

33 degrees and lots and lots of air. I keep my drying room warmer the that and I use a large squirrl cage fan to move air. The more air you move the faster they dry!

If no heat how about a dehumidifier?

Thanks for the info guys, it's much appreciated. I think I am going to run all of my fans and see how that works. If it doesn't I'll try something new. Maybe send my wife on a cruise or someplace warm, who nows. Ha!
