Apperently, the smell of skunk to a non trapper really is repulsive. My coworkers really hate it when i stop in the work truck to pick up skunks.lol But, i have most of them trained to pick up the coons. lol Go figure.

Yeah, the smell of skunk really stinks. Not when it's just a mild odor of skunk, but if one sprays your dog or your buddy and he has to ride in the front seat next to you all the way home (Not in my pickup he won't) after about 10 minutes it STINKS!
It takes 43 muscles to frown, 17 to smile, but only 3 for a proper trigger squeeze.

i use to think it smelled bad, then i was sprayed by 3 in one day, i didnt think i was stinky, but i left class early, and the dogs went nuts for days, shower after shower, i had to wear the stink off, now i think it smells like money, when i smell one on the road with friends in the truck, i always say, do you smell smoke? they take in a big whiff of skunk, and remind me that skunks do not smell like money

My Dad, Brother, and me were coon huntin in TN when we were kids and the dogs treed in the ground. Well of course us kids set in to diggin and after a few minutes, he yells "I SEE IT"! Turns out to be a pole cat as Dad called skunks! He got it dead in the face! It blinded him he said after he took off runnin through the woods bounceing off trees as he went. He dont come around my place much in the winter cause to this day(30 years or so later) the slightest whiff sends him into dry heaves! I still lmao when i think of it!...shane

I skinned some last year and snuck into the house late at night. I washed up and I didn't think it even smelled. It was late and I was tired and crawled in bed and went to sleep. When we woke up the next morning she told me that she didn't sleep very well because I had my arm around her and I REEKED of skunk. That is when I was sure that it was true love.
I have nothing clever to put here.

Interesting trivia: Both skunk essence and ammonia really don't stink. They don't actually activate the neural pathways into the brain that connect to "smell regions" in your brain but rather activate pain pathways. So no, they really don't stink--they hurt, you just perceive it as a smell.
I'm afraid of lil' bit. very, very afraid.

160..you have to remember that women have better noses than most men.
You cannot simply wash off skunk scent with just water. The spray, made up of thiols, is insoluble in water.
From wiki..."emoving the scent from objects or creatures can be difficult. Some home remedies suggest using tomato juice or vinegar. A more complex and effective remedy includes application of a mixture containing hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and liquid soap.[5] The thiols, which are responsible for the odor, are not water soluble, even with soap, but the baking soda catalyzes the oxidative ability of the peroxide, which oxidizes the thiols into highly water-soluble sulfonates. In an episode of the television program MythBusters, the hydrogen peroxide mix was found to be the most effective smell removal agent.[6]
From Popular Science Aug. 1995, chemist Paul Krebaum provided the recipe for the bathing concoction. One quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide, one quarter cup of baking soda, and one teaspoon of liquid soap. Bathe your pet in this solution and rinse with tap water. Krebaum warned that there is no way to store this potion. "If you put the ingredients in a bottle, the whole thing would explode."

Is airfreshner to me for my truck . I don't have any hitchhikers in the winter though it seems .
I did find if you get some on you and are out of peroxide and soda they do let you go to the front of the line at our grocery store without protest .
