Nits grow into lice is the attitude you have to adopt when it comes to nuisance work.

K&L, what warrior just said, pertains to nuisance work everywhere. I didn't answer because Kansas is a long way from Wisconsin and I thought guys closer to you might chime in. I'm in business to solve people's problems and I don't really care about the animal's problems. We have more wildlife than ever before, so don't worry about being too early. Just do it!

I have to set some traps for beaver tomorrow. I try to get people to wait until fur is prime, but some times you can't.
I trap year round when needed.

If the fox is in the hen house, you can't worry about her pups in the hole.

As bad as it sounds, if the beaver is a true nuisance, then you got to take it out regardless of young.

If you have a lot of jobs and the problems are major and can't wait, it is what it is. On occasion when I have time and it is that time of year I have taken beaver houses apart and retrieved a family of little guys for rehabbers. This time of year they will weigh about a pound or a bit more. Sometimes they will leave the den when you start pulling it down, but are very easy to catch, though not always easy to spot. They will go to shore in a few inches of water and rest quietly, tough to pick out. If they dive, unlike mom and dad who can dive under for 10 minutes or more and come up hundreds of yards away, these guys can go under for but a few seconds, 30 maybe, and pop right back up. Best part, they will not bite, no fear. You can just scoop them up and handle them. In fact I have found that even up to months old, maybe even 5 to 10 pounds and larger, they are not at all aggressive. On those jobs that are not pressing it sometimes works to leave the colony until late summer when the little ones are larger moving and easy to trap.

The timber companies that I have contracts with call and want me to remove beaver immediatly regardless of what time of the year it is. Sometimes I have to comeback to a tract to pick up a straggler beaver usually a small 10 pound beaver that one of the foresters saw.

A trap is only a trap if you dont know about it. If you know about it, its a challenge
