Thinking on getting one mainly for pulling coons out of attics and garages. Any preference between the two sizes ? Also for those that use one once you lock down on a critter can you shorten the pole to ease in bringing it back out ? Thanks in advance

Adam,

I have two of the short ones and two of the longer ones in my supply at all times. No ability on mine to shorten the pole itself, so I suppose when thinking through your scenario, picture yourself with enough pole extension to reach the critter safely for you and it, and then maneuvering within the possibly small space of the attic, rafters, etc.....

You might want two so you can grab whichever fits the location/situation best if you can justify the expense.

Justin

One thing I wouldn't try to save money on buy the best one you can . Longer the better in attics chimneys most of the time but a shorter 5' most handy , sometimes two at the same time if you can't get them behind the shoulder having a sec one could help getting a better hold on them before trying to pull them out . Good pole will last years if not abused

Thanks for the replys. I have used a 4 ft kech all for years. Sometimes a coon will only let you get so close before going "nascar" in the shed your trying to rope it in. Other times you cant physically get into the spot the varmint is at. I could see using a larger one in chimneys and getting the job done in one day.

Just a tip on catch pole lengths. Never ever extend a pole to it's full extension and try to lasso a pit bull going past at mach 2. I spun like a top on that one.

I use a back up trap most of the time before I go with catch pole in the attic . I got it up there anyway why not set it along the gable end . Some times they get by me and run around and right into the trap like I had it planed that way . Sometimes can only drive them out and they brake for it right into the trap . If its in the house covering the trap seems to work better make like a cover over it then drive them around that works really good for them skunks in garage jobs so they don't spray in the garage normally get a tip for that one .
