I have someone who has discovered a pair with 6 young on her small pond.
They won't leave and she can't even go near the pond without being chased.

The DNR gave her my name(I do some nuisance work), and I have never handled these before.
Its illegal to shoot now. She can't wait till fall either. Her Grand children swim(did)in the pond.

Is there a netting trap available to catch and relocate them?

First google Migratory Bird Treaty Act. It can be done but start there and come back when you understand what comes first.

In Michigan you got to take a goose class before you can do geese . There's two different ones so contact the DNR tell them your looking to do some goose work . During round up time they set these goose holding pens up and you take the geese to the DNR drop off pens and the DNR runs them south . The DNR guy that sent you to the lady should know all of this don't understand why the co wouldn't send someone on the goose permit list

Seniortrap I will fill in a few blanks for you. I feel for your customer because unwanted geese make bad neighbors they are noisy and produce about 1 pound of droppings a day per adult.

1. My good friend Warrior is trying to get you to realize these birds are protected by international treaty to protect all migrating birds including the Canada Goose. You can not trap, molest, harm, relocate or kill those birds with out a permit from USFS this includes their nesting area - bird nest and the eggs.

The operative word here is permit. Federal permits are required for this activity.

2. Is this a resident Canada goose flock? All Canada geese, including resident flocks, are protected by Federal and State laws and regulations.

3. Things your customer can do now is to insist everyone in contact with these birds to discontinue feeding . Have them get in touch with someone trained and licensed to handle geese in Michigan. Call the DNR for the list and my good friend Duane "Dew" Haske is on that list statewide (989) 358-8108

4. You can learn more about Canada Geese by listening to other WCO's who handle these big birds and answered many basic questions in my free podcasts. I have done two podcasts about Canada Geese and hope to get a few more online including one with the surviving Founder of the National Goose Academy and the master trainer to all master trainers when it comes to WCO training on handling the Canada Goose - Tim Julien . The National Goose Academy was founded by Tim and the late Kirk Lapierre. I was able to get lots of useful info from Kirk in a podcast in 2008.

Kirk as many of you know was taken from us in May 26, 2010. Kirk was known to many of us as simply Uncle Kirk and was one of the Founders’s Of The National Goose Academy. This discussion I had with Kirk was made on the very first night we officially did an announced podcast. For any one who knew Kirk well he nearly took over the conversation for almost two hours of solid discussion on the management of Canada Geese, Canada Geese harassment techniques, Canada Goose Egg Addling, use of dogs for Canada Geese Management, How to set up a Canada Geese Round Up and plenty advice on security and announcing any Canada Goose Round up day, working with local municipal officials and the Press .

I did a second podcast with Ron Jones , Leon Melton and a few other WCO's in 2011. We discussed common techniques and procedures involved in the removal & control of Nuisance Geese. From goose addling, hazing and about how to get a USFS Bird depredation permit.

You can download both of them for free at
