Yesterday I acquired my first Hancock beaver trap. It is a "previously owned" trap and needed a little maintenance. I pulled the pan off, sandblasted and painted it, straightened the dog etc and painted the steel parts.

To me the pan seems small. Anybody have any experience with enlarging the pan on those traps? I was wondering if it would be advantageous to weld on a junction box cover?

It is small cause the front of the beaver needs to be in that position for the trap to be the most effective. Too far away and to the side and you will miss beaver. The beaver literally turn when the trap fires and are rolled up.

The larger the beaver, the more important position is.

So aim small miss small type thing
