I know this has nothing to do with catchin critters, but I worked with this horse for about 10 months off and on. It was his 1st ride in the smoky's today! I'm proud of him! When I got him his name was Bucko. Well I don't want a horse with that name. He is now "Minocqua" It means a place of rest in Ojibwa

In 1966 I went to Alaska on a two week hunting trip. The guide I booked with was plum full so my first week was spent with one of his competitors. And guess what? They hunted from horseback. The guide was worried that I had never ridden before but when I swung into the saddle without using the stirrups, all his fears vanished.

My grandfather made his living buying and selling horses and his name was also Paul. That must be the connection.

Nice pics Paul and the story too, know quite a few in the horse rescue business out here which has become a full time gig it seems.

Grew up on horses and have had just a few shots even living the West the last 9 years to get atop one. Always relish the opportunity
and have fond memories of all of them.

By the way, I like that 3 time regional cat herding champion! smile

I've loved 'em and had a horse most of my life; trail riding is the best possible way to spend time! No need to feel bad becuz he's a stock horse - in terms of actual work (as in, what can a horse do that's useful), he'll outdo them fancy-steppers every time!
Let me know if you plan to enter any cat-herding competitions with him. Around here there's lots of interest in cutting/team penning, but they're still using cattle. I'll be glad to supply stock for your cat-herding events!

For a guy who'd "never ridden before", hoppin' into the saddle without touching the stirrups is a pretty good feat! You must have been taller then; like about 7'.

I will take a Quarter/app anytime over a Tn Walker Dave. It just doesn't look natural to me. And they seem wired and just not relaxed. Sure it's smooth but I like my sure footed App. They just busted a guy soreing horses here in Blount Co. And the goober was on the ethics commity. Kinda hope they do the same to his feet

HD we don't mean to be in the rescue business. Everytime we look for another horse God puts one in our pasture. Most of them were free and we have a heart for them. It kills me to see them neglected. Hey we will need a few ferral Tom cats for our next expidition lol.
Ridding is the best way to spend with the family!
Thanks for lookin

38!!!! Wow. Hows she holdin up? We rescued a 28 year old Walker (Sent it to a good home) and he was full of energy.
Dave look at the hind foot on the tri paint. You can see the damage. Those feet were pancakes when we got him.

If you wear britches, you can get them do head stands or sit on their rear. You can't teach them anything, that they don't already know how to do.

Dave, you just broke my heart. Paul, instead of rescuing horses you should be rescuing young people who are made to ride in those snooty ensembles. ( I will admit, however, that I found out the hard way, why cowboys and equestrians wear boots. )

An interesting side note: the city I live in has a population of 24,000, but we have 49 square miles. Because we have a wealthy population, it has been said, but never proven, that we have more horses per capita that any place else in America.

I can't argue. There is a state of the art stable less than a mile from me that's supposed to have air conditioning and a large indoor waterfall. ( I've worked at the owner's house; you'd think eventually they'd get something at the stable that they can't handle )
