I have had them avoid the cage traps, and use a coon box instead. Most have not seen one of these a do not associate it to a cage.

Can you try a coon box like one of these in a tree near by?
Load it with a 220 or 180 up in a tree or on a pole where he is traveling.
I don't know if that is legal where you are.
Works for me!
Just a thought.
