I wish I had a nice, calm, safe, routine, nuisance control job. grin
Doing a remake on a coyote set this morning. Apparently the elk took exception to it and did a dance on it. Kept getting the feeling I was being watched so I kept looking around and seeing nothing. Just about finished when I hear a tree limb break and the all heck breaks loose in the timber about a 100 yards away. I jumped up, spun around and drew my handgun. At a dead run, headed right at me, head back and slinging snot was a 5x5 bull elk. I yelled at him and he pulled up at about 35 yards and stood there snorting and digging at the ground. After 30 or so seconds he turned and walked into the edge of the timber where he started smacking things with his antlers (still in velvet) stomping and snorting. He stayed in the area until I left.
Not sure what he thought I was or what he was mad at.
About the only thing I could think of at the time was that at 35 yards, if he continued on, I would have time for one round into the ground to try and turn him before I had to dump him. That and how I was going to explain to G&F killing one of their elk in self defense. blush

I've always wonderd why deer are so attracted to my fox and coyote sets maybe best defence is a good offense . Sounds like your lucky your not dead . Elk can take some lead if it's not placed just right

I caught and held a cow elk this past season in N.M.,in a four coiled Bridger #3,in a lured walk through trail set for bobcat. The release went well,no problems, but a javelina can be a much more exciting undertaking. Good luck.

I remember seeing my dad kicked off his milk stool by a Holstein. Obviously elk must be friendlier. Did her scent improve the set?

Without a doubt I could not survive working in an office. Everyday in this business is a new adventure. The latest one I will put in a new post here in a few minutes.
