Went to my first job today and knocked on the door and the lady opened the door and said,"How old are you kid?" And i said,"14." she was suprised at how young i was doing this and then she informs me that she doesnt want to use traps. She has a rabbit problem and told me she wants them gone, sooo... i found some fishing nets in the back of the truck and started chasing the rabbits. when i was done i felt like the turtle man because of all the tackling of rabbits. I think the pay was best though, 10 dollars and some Apple Pie! Needless to say it was a good first job!

Good for you! It's always a good thing to respect the customers wishes.

However... How long did it take you to chase them rabbits down with a net? How many did you get?

Part of our job is also to educate the public. If she says "Don't use traps." that tells me she knows absolutely nothing about what we do. She already has a preconceived notion of what trapping is like and it's probably wrong. You did try to tell her that we have traps that are harmless to the animal, right? Box traps and cage traps work well for rabbits and you catch them completely unharmed. And it's MUCH easier than chasing them with a net.

If someone tells me I can not use traps, then I simply thank them for their time and move to the next job.

I'll not tell you how to set your pricing, but be warned. If you work too cheap they'll expect it of you always!

As you do more jobs, think often about the word exclusion. What was this women protecting from the rabbits? A garden, some flowers? Trapping the rabbits solves the immediate need, but the when you point out that more rabbits will probably be back, she might be willing to hear your ideas on how you could prevent rabbit problems for her; say, installing a rabbit proof fence around the lettuce.

Exclusion is where the money is. You could catch 2 rabbits at $10 or install a nice little fence around her garden for $100.

Yeah but he caught 2 rabbits in 10 minutes. Thats 60.00 an hour . if it took all day the fence should be 480.00 plus materials .plus pie.
