Hey guys. I just received my first adc job trappin beavers off a state park where they are flooding out the local trail system. I've never trapped beaver this time of year and was wondering what do you do with them after being harvested? Is the pelt good, meat useable for fall coyote bait etc. any input would be appreciaoted.

Swamper, First most important step would be to know your states laws and what they "require" you to do with any ADC removed wildlife species.
While you can take advice for this from a forum, checking with your local warden would be the best way to stay on the right track.

(Though I expect more than a few folks will tell you what is allowed as MI has a strong presence here - just my .02 - make sure you know the law as it is written)

Oh, and good luck with the job!

Justin

Nothing you can do with them there out of season . The permit is to stop damage not take animals out of season . You can't even use the castors . Might be able to gain a permit to have them tanned if there used for kids learning on these kids days at the state park . Talk to your park ranger they have the power to write permits . Is the park closed to the taking of animals under NRC mandates because if it is you will need a permit writen to cover that part as well . True it's a hunting closer but the parks and rec view that as a trapping closer even thow the COs and NRC view it as only hunting closer only

Pesky, what is a hunting or trapping closer? Trying to follow the rest of your post beyond the part about what you can and can't do with the beaver you took on an adc permit.

State park if closed to the taking of animals under parks and rec rules they would need to wright a permit to let him trap in the park . NRC ruled on this the park ranger views this as closed to trapping and hunting . The DNR views this as a hunting closer only but stands behind the parks and rec and wouldn't write the ticket but most likly ask you to stop . So basicly if trapping only in the park he would not need a damage control permit because they write him a single use permit . Makes total sense to me is the sad part . I got my first permit to trap in a state park in 1985 back then the rules were clearly posted at the front gate . Rule was simple to understand but then the NRC wrote the rule closed to the taking of animals and they stopped posting closed to hunting and trapping . Some parks were closed and posted closed to hunting only so you could still trap and for good reason because the parks now have animal damage problems from this hunting closer closed to the taking of animals being viewed as trapping closer when it's really a hunter safety reason . Talking to a local CO might not help you find out the rules because he or she might not have reaserched this law because they haven't been asked this before . They know it's closed to hunting that's clearly posted . They will check into for you and be happy to get back with you . Some park rangers even view turtle fishing closed in the park
