I am working a skunk job right now. After I remove them all she wants me to do an exclusion. This is my firs year doing true ADC work. So Exclusions are a something I haven't dealt with.
The owner wants to know what needs to be done to prevent more from moving in. It is a well maintained piece of property. No pets. The lawn is maintained by a professional. I couldn't find any sign of insect problems or of digging. So I believe the mother is leaving the property for food. The young appear to be staying close to the nest. I have taken 5. The only attraction I can find is that she has two sheds. One has a one or 2 inch around where are getting under it. The other is an older building where the trim boards are coming lose and rotting out. I am looking at digging down and putting hardware cloth around the buildings. At some point somebody had chicken wire around them but the lawn service apparently has a weed eater on steroids, it has been shredded.
Any advice or photos would be greatly appreciated.

Just because something is legal doesn't make it smart.

At least a foot down and wide. I also put sod staples on the bottom of wire mesh. Use vinyl coated or at least paint the metal so it does nt rust. I also use stainless staples out of my air gun for a cleaner look. You can use screws with washers, make sure to use exterior fastners.

Hardware cloth and chicken wire will NOT work. Coons, skunks, and ground hogs will go right through it. Need something MUCH heaver. 1/2 zx 1 - 14 gage galvanized after weld wil work. 1 foot into the ground and 1 foot out.

Jim, I haven't had a call back. I've been back to jobs because I was curious and have seen skunks trying to dig under with no luck. Coons on the other hand could go right through hardware cloth. For coons something heavier is needed.

The addition of vinyl lattice over the wire adds a finished touch plus may help keep the weedeater off of it.

I'm with Baxter. Our animals are too lazy to go through paper. They'd rather go to the neighbors. ( Which works for me )
