Since I somehow managed to get the auspicious title of "Chief Janitor and Custodian" for our company, trap repair falls under my classification. ( As a matter of fact, there has been talk about me getting a "Master's Degree" in trap repair )

Now I don't have a lot of problems with fixing what the animals have damaged. A do have a slight problem with cages that have doors slammed on them, used as ladders, thrown or dropped from rooftops, or any other man made idiosyncrasies.

Today took the cake. Someone delivered a Wickencamp with the connecting rod missing. What, the raccoon ate the whole rod?

Can I bring you some for you to fix for me? Maybe at the next Illinois meeting, you could bring your tools and set up shop or do a demo.

Can't help but ask...seriously, sometimes the Wickenkamp gives you these problems? I just bought a set to use some in ADC and on the fur line.

Now that is a trap I never liked from the get go.I had used one I had someone given me years ago. First time I used it was on a golf course coon damage set up. I never used it up to that point as it didnt transfer catches easily to our transfer cages and the wire grid was way too large. The trap design was very difficult to line up with a transfer cage without an animal escape during the transfer process.

I decided to remove the trap and catch from the catch site to do the transfer in a more protected environment of an old building they had on site then re set it since we had all of our trap inventory at that time in use on the course. The golf course was very large with extensive spread out damage, so I had to resort to using traps I usually only would lend to the occasional individual that needed to borrow a trap for personal use in the garden or to get an occaasional coon in the garbage etc.

While carrying the trapped coon to the golf cart for transfer back to the transfer location the bugger grabbed and bit the side of my leg while carrying it over just a few feet to place it in the cart. Then it almost bit me again on my hand while carrying it to the shed for transfer. It did succeed in scratching my fingers while using the carry handle though. So that was the end of the wickencamp traps for me. I could have hog ringed some smaller wire for a guard etc. but the wire grid was just too large to make it a good field working trap on sensitive jobs.

The wire grid was entirely too large, I think it was 1" x 2" on that trap at the time. I knew it was going to be a problem when I first saw the trap design, that is why I never put it into service. Function of the trap was not the problem but it was also too long and too open a design that is why I never used it for work. After transfering the coon and dumping out 30 pounds of dirt and sod, back in the truck it went and I traded it to a fella for some services one day. I hope their design construction has improved from that older design.

The turf damage was significant where it was placed. So you fellas can have your wickencamp traps.

I finally got my wickicamp trap after couple weeks but it came out damaged . the bar under and that holds the pan on was bent like a dogs hind leg . I emailed a picture of damage asked them what's up with that and they offerd to replace it if I mail it back . I asked for just the bar and I could replace it seemed more easy then mailing the whole thing back . They said ok but sent the long bar out that acts as the trigger wrong part . Wasn't the trap maker but some one who sells the traps . I guess I'll have to email them back say what's up . Seems like a nice trap but they don't paint them at all and it rusted over night looks bad and bent up and brand new .
I would not buy this trap again don't like the trigger and it's rusted up over night . I would much rather have the Williams trap over all other brands At this point . I don't know what is about the Williams trap but animals refuse them much less plus there built to last .

Makes it really nice releasing the critters . Just roll it over . Sometimes we have critter races kinda like frog hopping contest . Reason two Thinking the critters see less over head when working the setup seems to get refused less . I stake or wire down every trap no madder which brand so flipping over till I want it to doesn't happen .

In CA no release here except onsite. So I do not see a use for those.
