First off, new member, love the site, and first time post.

I am considering opening an animal control business and the between the two counties that I would primarily focus on already have seven wildlife control operators registered with the state as well as a few others in neighboring counties that are close enough to get a piece of the pie. Population of the two counties is approximately 700,000 and mostly urban.

In your opinions is the market area large enough to support me as well? Or, am I looking at this wrong and just need to do it and do it better?

Sounds like you did your homework. Yes, put the rest out of business with good service and attention to detail. They'll never know what hit them.

Thank you everyone for your responses. Happy no one saw the competition as a red flag, I wasn't sure if it would be or not.

Robb, I would focus on Lake and Porter counties in the Northwest corner of the state. If or as this became a multiperson operation I would continue west into Cook County IL and the Chicagoland market.

Lake County Indiana my 'ol stompin' grounds, left there in '81, that's 1981. Kleinman Road in Highland was my last known address there trapping muskrats and coon in the Kady Marsh ditch which was basically an open sewer. AH the memories!
