I'm not an ADC trapper by trade, but have been offered a contract for an upscale neighborhood. Licensing will be easy, but I'm not sure about liability insurance. What do you guys and gals recommend, providers and a reasonable amt to pay for such insurance?

Thanks in advance!

Gotta have it. Home owner associations always ask before I do a job. Get a hold of Jim Pace at Christian-Baker Insurance co. He writes a wildlife pest control policy.

Start with where is your office located.

When shopping for insurance you have to make sure that you find an agent who is licensed to write a policy for the state your business headquarters is in and at times depending on state laws where the work will be done. For instance, if you are in Indiana and doing work in Kentucky, you will need to be licensed as a business and get your nuisance license in Indiana and then register as a foreign business in Kentucky along with applying for and getting your Kentucky nuisance license and sales tax account. In this case, Bob & Son's insurance policy would cover you as they are licensed to write policies in both states and that policy would allow work in Kentucky with the home office in Indiana. However, I do not know if the policy would cover work in Mississippi which may require a separate policy.

Additionally, some insurance company's have other conditions to qualify for coverage. In order to qualify for Christian-Baker (Jim Pace) you have to be a member of NWCOA as it is a member's only policy. Either Brownyard Group or Crane insurance requires you to have at least 2 years of business operations before you could be covered from them from my conversation with them. I don't know if Bob & Sons has any special conditions to qualify, but depending on what you do it can affect your rate.

Of course, you can always ask your own insurance agent if they write general liability policies. A lot of agencies will write the policy's these days it's just normally cheaper to go with one that has more group members.

I should probably mention that Bob and Sons insures you with West Bend Mutual which happens to be one of my best customers. I'm hoping that lots of you will buy their policy because I need to keep working.

The responses are greatly appreciated. I would never operate a paid job without insurance. I have a full time job, that pays well, and won't be doing adc work full time. No need to know all the specifics of everyone's business, but could someone throw a ballpark figure for insurance costs per yr. This venture may not be justified monetarily.

I'm going to check with my local provider and see what they offer.

We are lucky and have a local company that writes a policy for many of the N.Y.State operators. You can start at 300,000 liability and go up. Half a million is 552.00 a year, and a million runs about 850.00 a year, all have zero deductible on liability. Hope this helps.
