Since Cabelas opened here a few years ago I've noticed an increasing pigeon problem on their wooden timbers, I think everyone has seen the huge logs they use in their construction. I've been waiting for the call from them but now it may never come. Over the last few weeks they had the logs sand/soda blasted and restained, there is not one pigeon roosting now, they were just sitting on the very peak of the roof the other day when I visited. Has anybody seen or heard of a stain with repelling properties?

I know they mke an additive to repel woood peckers and they make a clear spray that I her works pretty good. WCS carries it but I still remember the sticky tubes and I think I m going to stick with shock tracks.

I know Crows, Camp Robbers and Stellar Jays have a great sense of smell.

They harvested weeks ago, right now it's sugar beet harvesting time, I'm sitting down wind of the beet plant typing this. What caught my eye was there are no droppings from roosting activities anywhere. Every time I stopped there I would notice piles of droppings by the doors and under the side canopies where they display boats and other large items. Right now there are zero droppings.

Would you be able to see flex track on the beams from below Dave? I just watched a gas station go from about 400 pigeons to 3 in 4 days due to them hiring a company to come and trap after years of not wanting to do anything. Think the monsoons we just went through caused them some problems that couldn't be ignored.

I'm with Joe though, go in and find out! And report back of course! smile

While vultures and certain birds have a great sense of smell, think about how they hunt and what they eat, makes sense. Other birds have a serious lacking in this category. Taste is another thing of course, but not related to this topic.

How many have seen folks hang moth balls under eaves or soffits for swallows or other birds to no avail?

If someone used sticky foot or hot foot you should just see the difference for the next month or until a good warm spell... smile

Dave, how many times a week do ya go to Cabela's?
In a way, I'm fortunate that "our" Cabela's is about 60 miles distant, or I'd be in there spending money faster than a drunken sailor.
It's a well-kept secret that they have no pest birds 'cuz they let potential gun buyers try them out on the birds.

Dave as I type this I'm two miles away but I really don't go very often, maybe 3-4 times a year. When they first opened I thought I would just rent a cot there but they pulled a couple stunts that P'd me off so much I didn't walk into their store for almost two years. I drive by it on the interstate almost daily so that's how I've kept tabs on there sand blast and restain.

Wow, good post Salys. When it comes to a beautiful store and really decent sales people, Cabela's is right on top. When it comes to competitive prices, well, I haven't been to Cabelas in a couple of years either. ( And I bet mine is a lot closer than yours )

I've got to admit that when you're the last guy to build a store in an area that already has Gander Mountain, Fleet & Farm, and Menards, you're really going to have to perform.
