Any of you ever do any work for blueberry farms? I drive past a couple (mom and pop operations) on my way to work. Didn't know if raccoons, opossum, skunks or 'dillas would cause them problems.

Blueberries in Texas?

Around here the nuisance critters are song birds. Hazing is marginally effective.

Blueberries and strawberries grow pretty good here.

The wonders of plant breeding I'm sure.

These aren't some kind of genetically modified blueberries are they?

Probably but I'm not sure. Never really had any dealings with them.

We have some blueberry farms here in Florida. The only animal damage I have seen is the deer will occasionally nibble on the new/young growth of the plants. There seems to be very minimal attraction though. Some wild bird species are attracted to and will take the ripe berries. The farmers don't like any of that.

Where these farms are at is fairly rural. They probably take care of both problems with a shotgun!

Not GMO. Southern Highbush and Rabbiteye are southern natives. Also east texas is more akin to louisiana and the rest of the gulf coast than it is the western plains of west texas.

That's interesting. I hadn't heard of the rabbiteye blueberry.

Up here in the northeast, the native blueberry is the wild lowbush blueberry. All others are developed horticulturally through selective breeding and hybridization. I guess because the wild lowbush is a northeast variety, I just figured blueberries in general were a northern, cold climate plant.

Learned something new.
