When things get difficult and a bucket or ladders are out of the option. My tech AKA Dangle brings the ropes. Anyone else have to dangle on jobs?

Yep. Hired a mountain climber last week for this job because there was no way to get a lift anywhere near this peak of the house, which happened to be the spot the bats were using. Geography, landscaping, house layout, and neighbors' house too close made it impossible to get a lift in there.

I just turned down a job 2 weeks ago because I have no lift, don't know any mountain climbers and there was NOTHING to dangle from!

One chimney stuck through the highest peak at least 20 feet above the roof line. To make matters more precarious, the roof was at least a 10/12 pitch. The roof line this chimney was coming through was three stories up.

I'm not afriad of heights but even I have my limits.

On gables it's not a one rope deal. At times we tie off to the truck or a tree or even the neighbors deck. And then to go along the edge of the gable we use a come along at times. This has gained us a ton of work. I would take a class on climbing, rope use and rigging use. I was blessed to hire a guy that has the knowledge and berries to do it!

I have the gear. But still need to learn how to use it properly.

Just because something is legal doesn't make it smart.

Paul, I'm looking forward to the podcast but might not make it out of the mountains in time to take it in till after its recorded.

My biggest issue has been "over the edge" lets call it. Meaning the possible ways to setup when shingles or metal roof overhang the edge you are needing to hang over or rope off of.

I love my petzl bod harness, don't like the descender I bought from them, have some good ropes and anchor ability, but would love some pics of the over the edge area and how you fortify it to keep the roof intact.

For some reason I'd rather hang off a perfectly good roof than use a 40 foot ladder (though in either case I'll take the lift when possible, however trees have been a curse with ability to use lifts in most of my necessary area).

Justin

My Tech Elias Crawford is the pro dangler. He will be the one that can answer the most questions. We do tack on a fee if we have to get the ropes out. And I can cover that.

Looking forward to it. Can you arrange for Elias to be prepared to give a safety briefing before he gets into the actual dangling talk.

See you tomorrow.

I will let him know. I usually give him a hard time like "Should I tie off to this lawn chair?" I get a little rise out of him then. lol
