Groundhogs, rockchucks, woodchucks, marmots.

I have groundhogs eating my deer plots. So I intend to trap them in my big box trap if I can get them to go in.

Is there anything laying around the house they love?

Since the Comstock trap came out, I've quit using bait but I can tell you that after you catch the first one, that smelly trap is the best bait for the rest of them.

Almost time for hibernation. Why mess with it?

Mike ,
I have a food plot for deer. I took a cattle panel bent in a hoop and put that in the food plot to keep out the deer from that one specific spot so that I can compare it to the deer-grazed area. I looked out there and the dang groundhog was inside the hoop eating everything the the deer couldn't reach. Besides, I want him for coyote bait.

As a general rule I use apple slices, melon slices or leafy greens with a hint of gland lure or with a trail of Formula One to pull them out of debris piles (from Bob Jameson/Ultra Blend). I caught this one today on just apple slices. I thought that our recent cold spell and frost would have sent the hogs to slumberland but we'll be in the 60's next week and I guess they'll hang out a little longer. Good luck!
