I have squirrels chewing on all of the valley flashing on the house. The roof is less than a year old. The squirrels are not living/nesting on the structure. Aside from trapping(which is on going), does a product exist that can be applied to the flashing to stop/reduce

the chewing?

I will be waiting for an answer as well. I once used the most vile spray imaginable on some cedar shakes. I got a taste as the wind blew some of the spray towards me. It almost caused me to wretch but didn't seem to bother the grey squirrel what so ever. I am beginning to wonder if they even have taste buds.

Call me a rookie, have never seen that before. A think coat of roofing tar painted on will stop the chewing

Now you tell me. My old man used to get mad as heck whenever we got a horse in a box stall that thought he was a beaver.

I think this is the work of a pervert. I have never seen this type of chewing and I think it is unusual eliminating the particular culprits from the gene pool will probably stop this chewing. I have added vanish to log cabins and caused squirrels to stop chewing an area. After trapping I would smear some on the shingles as it will hold the odor longer.

Sleep'n with an animal..I can help.
Do not use both feet when testing the depth or temperature of the water

Could it be some form of salt or salt flavor in the paint?

Just because something is legal doesn't make it smart.

What species of squirrel is this from and do you happen to have any video of it?

I've seen this type of gnawing as well. Mostly on gutters both on valley flashing as well.

Greys, no video

no chewing in the last two weeks. I did find a house one block over with the same issue, and with the same black valley flashing(as viewed from the road). I also observed in this neighborhood, roofs with other colors of flashing have not been chewed.

I regularly find chewed aluminum on structures when juvenile grey squirrels are living in the structure. I found it odd that the squirrels traveled to this home to chew.
