When I was in the Corps, we always poked fun at the other branches and I know they did the same. After being reactivated for Desert Storm, I no longer make fun of the other branches.
For me it isn't about what branch a person served in, rather it is about whether someone served or at least supported those that did/are serving.
"If you can't stand behind our troops, stand in front of them."
Happy Veterans day to all that have and are currently serving.

THE PRICE America, America. Oh what a land. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, For every woman, child and man.
But such a gift, Did not come without a price. So let us never forget those, Who made the ultimate sacrifice.
It started with, The shot heard around the world. The patriots and British, Fighting at Lexington and Concord.
And, continued at Valley Forge, With Washington's winter of discontent. But, he rallied his men, And they defeated the Hessian the British had sent.
The Revolutionaries won, The final showdown. The beat the British, And Cornwallis at Yorktown.
In the War of 1812, Mr Key saw through the rockets glare. That over Ft. Mc Henry. Our flag was still there.
The Mexican American War, Gave us "Remember the Alamo." A lot of frontier hero's fought there, And on to eternal glory they did go.
Then the bloodiest war, Anyone had every seen. The Civil War caused the most casualties. Of any in our history.
At the battles of, Antitem, Gettysburg, and Shiloh, Oh, how the blood, Of those young men did flow.
Finally, that war too ended, And, true to Lincoln wish, The government of the people, by the people and for the people, Did not perish.
Next, the Spanish American War, And, the charge up San Juan Hill. Ah, to have rode with Teddy Must have been a thrill.
Then, came World War I Unlike any seen before. It was called, The war to end all wars.
Hero's like Sgt. York fought then, And the Red Baron as well. But, the men in the trenches reconfirmed "war is [Please excuse my language... I'm an idiot]."
We learned to fight with, Planes, tanks and even poison gas. Eventually this war, Like all war also passed.
World War II, Started with the attack on Pearl Harbor. That was when FDR, Said "No more."
We hunted the Desert Fox, And then stormed into Sicily. Up through Italy, And defeated Mussolini.
To the beaches of Normandy, Where the tides ran red. From the bodies, Of the men who lay dead.
We marched through Europe, On our way to Berlin. The Russians came, too. And, soon Hitler reign came to an end.
The Japanese fought us hard, From Midway to Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima The war ended when we, Destroyed Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
We went to Korea, To act as policemen. The battles raged on, And it seemed to never end.
The Chosin Reservoir Was a mass retreat? We fought so hard, That it wasn't quite a defeat.
Finally, the talks at Panmunjong. Decided enough men had died. We didn't win and, It ended in a tie.
Next came Vietnam, The war that raged on for years But, for the men who fought there They suffered some of their greatest fears.
For the men who fought and died, At places like Hue and Khe Sahn. Their ghost and memories may be forgotten, But they are not gone.
And, lastly when Saddam, started a storm in the Persian Gulf. We responded by, Sending "Stormin' Norman Swartzkoff."
Saddam promised "The mother of all battles." Well it was more like the uncle of all retreats. America and the Allied Coalition, Handed Saddam a very swift defeat.
Let us not forget the mothers, wives, and sweethearts. Whose tears fell down like rain. When the got the letter, Informing them their boy wasn't coming home again.
So, here's to the Army, Navy, the Air Force and the Marines. And all the battles they have won. To the red, white and blue. The colors that never run.
So, let us remember, Whenever we are together, The price paid for, The wings of liberty not to lose a feather.
Because the liberty and freedom, We hold so dear, Was paid for in, young blood, cold sweat and bitter tears
I wrote this back in 99 or 2000
Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure

Jordan, Nate, and all the rest of you: here is something that has been bothering me for the last couple of days and I've finally got the guts enough to ask somebody about it. ( I figured that you guys wouldn't put me on some hit list; you'd do it yourself )
Where am I wrong? When I was a senior in high school, I had three choices: Join the military, get drafted into the military, or get arrested and have the judge give me two choices; jail or the military.
All my older friends had paved the way for me to join the Army. ( Which I did ) I was with a lot of guys that were college graduates and it didn't take us more than the first two days to figure out the US Army was America's body count. We were under trained, terribly armed, and very unfit as a fighting force. Fortunately, in 1961 we were not fighting anywhere. If it weren't for my classmates in the Marines and Navy, I might have felt a little better about my military experience.
Anyway, I'm getting off the subject. Why should I feel a whole lot of sympathy for someone who has joined today's military? The only kids I know who would do something like that are only motivated by the fact that their parents are complete jerks and that they can get a college education and make their parents look like the morons they are. If a war happens to pop in the meantime, that's really not why they joined.
You need to understand a few things about me, I guess. I'm as patriotic as the best of you. I was the best shot in my company and would have taken sniper training if I was sent into combat. Every career Army officer or non-com that I ever met was an alcoholic, gay, or had an I.Q. of zero. ( I take that back, one sergeant had a wife who owned a whorehouse in Waynesville; he was alright )
I think the Army taught me respect, honor, and how to drink large portions of beer. After basic training was over, I felt confident we could take on at least half of the girl scouts in the country and win. If you think that I was dissatisfied with my basic training, you should have heard the athletes in my unit. If you think I'm knocking our entire military, you're wrong. My best friend was in the Marines at the same time I was in the Army. His weekly letters made us feel a lot more safe and protected.
Anyway, here's my question: why, if you didn't have to, would you join today's military for anything but free ( On my dollar ) training?

Paul, I can't speak for Jordan or Nate as they were another class of warrior. pretty elite bunch. So...it's different. But when I was a young missile cop, it was then fun of it.. your duty day rolls around with some of your best guys for the next week. Rotary out to some sites and indescript travel by others . And it was so fun and we actually had jobs to due. More responsibility than a kid shoild've had. Be we did it and handled ourselves well . We were enthusiastic and ready to go.
Later,it became school after ,after school. Which were challenging in their way. With all that came opertional and additional training rolls. You have to wear lots of hats. Coach, logistitian, lead trainer, plans and policies, so and son In time, I really like and see when a troop or officer gets it . IT . ?And it comes together and " Holy crap.! We have a unit ! A machine !! " And then we go forward. My last mission was perfect.you are subjevtive matter expert do it. Wasn't sure, but it was done and people all over Afghanistan looked me at to me able to handle. I had the freedom to fly or fall. Mostly flew, with a few falters. Awesome job. The mission was a total succes from our guys in the fied to Command. Best assignment ever. And yet But its alawys been the guys. Keen on doing for my bros.
