A couple of years ago I sealed a log cabin for flying squirrels. I wasn't real comfortable so I agreed to work on the sealing by the hour. I thought it worked out good for both of us but now they have flyers again. When the ice gets off the roof I am going back to fix the problem but I have a feeling that there is a difficult to find entry. Other than the log sides the roof and ends of the cabin have a flat tung and groove so once they are in they have total access from one end to the other.

Log homes need re-chinked every 2 years as an average. I'm not talking wildlife control, but basic maintenance. I have a friend who has a very large log home, and he said I should shoot him if he ever says he's going to build another one! Maintenance is ridiculous, and these structures constantly twist and contort, opening up gaps for all kinds of unwanted guests. You can do a perfect seal-up on a log home, and two years later return to find many of the areas you sealed are wide open again.

I had them in a house in MO. [not log] and I sat outside and watch as evening turned to darkness and was able to see where they glided from. By the way, I live in a log home now I built 5 yrs. ago. No chinking in mine, no large critter problems, but, insects are kind a pesky. Maintenance on a large log home is necessary, I kept it small and easy. But I love it. Good luck with the flyers.

Not a big fan of flyers either, but a big fan of log cabins. Took a course on chinkless log building in Soldotna, Alaska in 1989 for 6 days, then started the house in 1990. Built it in a friends backyard, took it down in a few hours, reassembled it on our lot. These Swedish Cope cabins require no chinking, no maintenance, no flat sides, no splines, no nothin', solid logs bottom to top. Each log is cut and coped to fit the log below, exactly. When done correctly you can't get a sheet of paper between the logs, tight. Takes a bit to build them right, but then you are done. We have been in this one for almost 22 years, have done nothing but live in it. No leaks, air or water. The Swedes and Norwegians have been doing them for more than 1,000 years. Some cabins are more than 800 years old we were told. Bought a loader and built this one pretty much alone. Just have to understand logs, shrinkage and deal with it preemptively. B. Allen Mackey brought the technology to North America years ago to B.C. Canada. Now they are everywhere.
