Theoreticaly: The smell from a LARGE predator will scare off anything smaller. ie: this is MY territory, go away. Around here, the St. Louis Zoo sells Lion crap to spread around the garden as a repellent for everything. By all accounts that I've heard about, it works.

We (Laura and I) are Zoo Friends and have never seen "lion crap" for sale at the Zoo. Bob, the St. Louis Zoo (one of the world's finest, and free admission, I say with pride) employs those scary wierd people called "Scientists" (look it up) who would laugh in your face if you said "lion crap" will have any effect on local wildlife, that in all probability, have never been within a mile of a big cat.

If this were in fact true, cats would not go anywhere dogs have peed. A cat would not come within 100 feet of a fire hydrant. Urine is typically an attractant to all animals.
Animals of the same species are attracted for social and territorial responses. Prey is attracted to determine what predators are in the area to be on the watch for. Predators are attracted to prey urine to determine what meals may be available.
Rabbits are commonly captured in traps when fox, coyote, or bobcat urine are used as attractants. If they were effective in repelling these animals it would be impossible to capture a rabbit with these compounds near them.
The best way to determine what may be a deterrent to an animal is to determine what senses are used to elicit primary fear responses. All animals utilize their sense of smell to evaluate their surroundings. But just smelling a threat does not create a flight response in most cases. However, smelling a threat puts an animal on high alert. If it receives additional information through sight or sound, the threat level is amplified, resulting in the flight response you may be seeking.
To place this in a human analogy, What do we do if we smell smoke? It heightens our awareness!!!! We will usually seek out the source of smoke to see if there is a fire that threatens our well being. Sure, we are all afraid of fire, we know it can burn us, our property, and possibly kill us, but we don't run from the smell of smoke. On the other hand if our additional awareness leads to find a raging fire, that's when we run!!!!
So my opinion of predator urines as an animal deterrent is they can only work effectively if used in conjunction with a sight or sound influence.

I happen to own a couple of pieces of petrified dinosaur poop. ( I am not making this up ) With that kind of clout, shouldn't I be able to rule the entire animal kingdom? Yes you should.

Urine is typically an attractant to all animals. Correct. Exactly why fur trappers use URINE when making sets, especially for upland predators. Anyone who has trapped foxes or coyotes for any time at all knows you catch skunks, opossums, feral cats, raccoons, and other critters, all ATTRACTED to the area due to the urine smell. There are plenty of good articles by experienced fur trappers explaining the use of urine. For example: http://www.trapperpredatorcaller.com/article-index/why_bother_with_urine

I've been trapping 40 some years. Some 16 or 17 states in all. I'm a full time nuisance trapper and I can tell you this... It won't repel Jack ! A fool and his money are soon parted. Urine and any kind will attract all kinds of animals. Cougar urine will attract rabbits...and deer...and guess what cougars eat ? Rabbits and deer in KY never smelled bottled cougar urine. Look, it was a nice thought by your folks. Go use it on a canine set and catch a coyote or fox. I used to use wolf urine.......caught a ton of red foxes on it.

Sure is! Though you may spook critters (coyotes come to mind), I have personally witnessed certain species being very interested in human "scent posts" lets put it. Maybe more of a curiosity in this case, but either way, can work on some. Urine communicates information, more than our noses can detect and in my humble opinion I'm thankful my nose isn't on par with hounds or wild canines.
