Hello everyone,

I have a question with regards to websites and not having prices displayed onto them. I have a general idea as to why but am starting to wonder if it is taking away from our ability to close more jobs. I know we can not put exact prices onto the site as all jobs differ and prices witl not for the most part be exact until an inspection is made. My thinking is if we give the customer a more detailed experience visually they may be more inclined to call us rather than continue clicking through websites until they get tired of looking for something they will never find. Now if we give them a detailed yet open idea of what they can expect we may appear to be more honest thus getting them to call us. Now I am still new to this business and by no means am I saying what we do currently is wrong I am looking for insight as to why we don't and the reasons, truthfully I am thinking about doing it but before I am shunned I am looking for some insight.

Thanks so very much

Hochay,

You aren't going to ruffle any feathers by asking that. Pretty simply many folks might quote an inspection fee or some basic service, but very very few will quote the rest without knowing what they are getting into.

For me what is worse than someone telling me a price on their website? Telling me the price and then having it be different because of mileage to my home, or how my home situation is different than the base price.

There are a few websites in our industry that list them, I looked for pricing when I first was deciding to get into this business, however most guys/gals feel more comfortable quoting their prices and discussing things in person, or on the phone with some description of the job.

No one is going to shun you if you do what feels right to you, knock yourself out, but remember its all what fits your business model, not the industry as a whole.

What is priced right for one guy in one town is far from what the guy in the next city or country area is charging, based on experience, market, and a myriad of other factors.

That probably isn't helpful, just to say, no one is going to be upset if you decide to post your prices and live and die by them as they are written.

Good luck!

Justin

My base/insprection fee depends on how far i have to drive. I carry a list of the towns I service which includes almose 50 towns. And that is just a base price. Can't give a solod price without looking at the problem. Too many different hings to conceder without looking.

I'm sure it has a lot to do with the area that you live in. If I posted my prices on-line, every competitor would charge 95 cents less and 90 percent of the customers would go with them to save the 95 cents.

Us Wisconsinites are notoriously cheap. It's the way we were raised. I am not much different. I'll buy my next vehicle from my local dealer, like I always do, but you can bet I'll be armed with the lowest price out there when we start talking money.

I have to admit that the customers who take the time to read our website usually go with us because they can see that we take our jobs seriously and when they hear us on the phone they know that they're dealing with a responsible business. ( Obviously they try to keep me as far away from the phone as possible )

Hochay,

Your question is a debate we've had and continue to have internally, too.

I agree people scan websites looking for prices and wonder if including them will get more business. In the end, for reasons others mentioned, we don't post prices and want them to call for a price.

If they seriously have a problem and want to do something about it, they'll at least call. When they act outraged/shocked by the prices (as some do) we give them others' phone numbers so they can find out these prices are not out of the ordinary.

Hopefully, the informative nature of the rest of the site gets them to make the call.
