Really cool finding those sheds! Looks like you've got a good moose population there, or at least an area where they are yarding up for the winter.

Was that batch of snares set originally on a kill site, or just a bait site? My baits are all pretty close to the main trail. That will get the heart pumping to bust brush through the snow with that big dog along for the ride!

How did that 900 turbo do on gas? I love my SWT 900 ACE but it isn't as good on fuel as I expected. I have a buddy with a 2018 he claims 20 mpg. I used it a week or two a couple years ago when my old sled was broke down and I seem to remember about 18 mpg. But with 1400 miles on my 2023 12 mpg the last two days is the best I've gotten. Usually around 10.

Good stuff JR.

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

You have to remember that 1 out of 3 Democratic Voters is just as dumb as the other two.

Thanks guys...

smalltimetrapper.... The moose did pretty well in my country last year compared to the flats and 20B. Moose come out of the flats all the way up into the high valleys to winter making it look like there is a lot moose here. They will do a march in the spring back out of the high country heading for the flats. The wolf came off that kill that I'd set up earlier. Nothing has hit my wolf baits. Definitely a good pack out for sure.

bearcat2....Not sure how it did on fuel but I own 2 Expeditions with 900 Ace and a Skandic WT 600Ace and none of them get 18 or 20 mpg the way I ride. 12-15 sounds a little closer. The guys that ride down a groomed trail or maybe ice fisherman maybe can get 18-20mpg. The power was crazy in the Turbo but the noise was rough.

muskrat411... The ATA Wolf Trapping School is on February 4-5th.

Yeah I usually get around 10 mpg with my 900 ace trapping. If I am just running long distance without all the start stop I get much better even if towing and breaking trail.

Well that is good to know. I was hoping for better, but it is still a shade better than any other snowmachine I have owned. I've been getting around 10 to 12 at best trapping and hunting off of it, always towing and often enough breaking trail. A lot of start and stop, the best I've gotten was when I am running over the pass, have a couple wolf traps and a couple marten traps up on the pass, but I can just look at them as I go by without stopping, so I have a long run where there is no game, I'm not slowing or stopping to look at tracks unless the wolves I come through or I have something in a trap, until I get down on the other side, so I have twenty miles each way where I pretty much sit down and cruise, with stop and go driving on both ends.

Greetings Trappers and Happy Valentines day. Came back off the line yesterday for a couple days. Had an appointment with the Apple company to help with my computer and phone problems. Grrrrr.... Do ya understand.. Grrrr. I am so frustrated with this bs. Anyway, picked up the third lynx in the catch-all set with the Kill Squeak. Still no wolves on the line. Missed the coyote again due to the caribou tripping the trap. Picked up a red fox on the baited hole set on Pee Post Pass. Tripped the marten gear and pulled a lot of wolf gear. Just got tired of continually cleaning it off with now wolves around. [Linked Image]

picked up another young wolverine on a pee post that the wolverine #1 left. This little guy pulled 1 marten, ate 3 baits and I missed him on 3 post before catching him on a pee post I've never caught anything on. 24# little male that I choked out with the snare pole. [Linked Image]

I think the little devil bear was trying to bait me into the circle to play. Anyway he is on the board now and just happens that there is another one nearby. Not sure about all the wolverines around this year but may have something to do with the lack of wolves.

My ice bridges are starting to fail and it seems early for that. Picked up a few marten this year . [Linked Image]

Wolf school went over well and had some great instructors. The only thing more fun that catching wolves is talking about how to catch wolves. [Linked Image]

Got a few things to do around the shop before heading back out. Be safe out there

Its great to hear things went well with your PET scan, can't imagine having that weighing on my mind.

Thats a perfect picture of that lynx! Not sure I am to the level of wolverine choke hold yet, getting a little more comfortable with them though.

Thanks for instructing at the wolf trapping school and staying up Saturday evening sharing your pictures and video. Really enjoyed the entire experience.

Really like your how to in doing things, your custom tools, and organizing to make life smooth and better. Beautiful photos, always. Love the detail perfect lynx and close up of that growley wolverine..huffing and puffing.

I know you are the quality wuff instructor that I have enjoyed when I took the course , in Idaho, with Jack presiding in his wonderful way.

Glad you're inspired into the art again. You are a fine artist . Of course, good tools, even in art are just as important as those on the trail . Good close up glasses are a worthy investment . They will give a new energy on inspiration. As well as a magnifier visor headband. I have one and it makes all the difference in small detail. Your work in happiness is worth the best.

And finally, your scan being in glowing success is as life reborn. Worthy of celebration.

Thank you for the share, JR.

AK I got a question for you , here in Washington I’ve trapped marten for a long time and I always pin the back legs to go with the tail as I was taught in the 80’s . I’m being told now that they want them pinned with the belly ? What’s your take and opinion?
Thanks Jake

i pin my marten legs back along side of the tail. Gives you better length then pinning on the side or the belly. Sizing is the first grade the graders do.

Good evening trappers. Still having technical difficulties over here. Got some good videos but unable to upload to computer. As much as I enjoy sharing this stuff with you all, I am not tech savvy enough to figure this out. Had a couple good trips out on the line. Not a lot of fur but good times for the most part. [Linked Image]
Had a friend of mine and his son come out on the line with me for a few days and we set some gear and checked some line. A couple coyotes had dug up the bone pile up at the neighbors so we hung a few snares in the woods around it. Picked up a little 23# coyote in the first snare we hung. He was excited about that so I gave it to him I sent them home after 3 days and was going to put out some more gear but the temps warmed up and got some nasty weather moved in. I decided to sneak out early in the morning where the headlights would help me see the trail. That worked good until I hit the Little Delta and sunk in the new overflow. Spent 2 1/2 hours messing around in that before finally getting out. I filmed most of the recovery but... well,,, it is in technical difficulty bin... [Linked Image]

Ran back out a couple days later and picked up a nice gray wolf in a pee post with some dog straw. You know what they say,,,, trap on sign. Well it works. [Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
89# gray male next to the 23# coyote [Linked Image]

Spent one day testing some handholds for my 6.5-06 until I found one that worked. 120 grain Sierra Matching BTHP flew as true as this blind shaky clown can shoot. 5 shot group at 100 yards. [Linked Image]
Got some more snow and wind over the beginning of the week and made for an interesting trip back to the truck. Only got stuck once pulling the groomer on the way out. Starting to figure out how to drive that machine after 7K miles. Little bit of a slow learner I'd say.
Getting ready for the ATA Fur Auction now and will probably start pulling gear this week. old luck and be safe.

Seems like enough warmer temps to put a wee bit of a kink in the trail.

I do like the sign , it directs traffic flow … grin

Wrapping things up…be safe, JR.

Too bad you got sunk after your help left, that will get a guy hot and sweaty trying to get out of there! Cool pic of the wolf with the sign! I can't quite tell, what trap did you catch him in?

I hope you get your your technical issues figured out, I always like watching your videos.
