MN is easy! For once. MNDNR will issue you a permit. You have to send in a list at the end of the year showing how many protected animals you take. Rabbits and/or Hares, Squirrels, Raccoons and Muskrats.
1. The company and its employees must be acting as an agent for the owner, occupant, or lessee of the damaged property, and at their request.
2 Live animals may be euthanized or relocated in a remote area subject to land owner approval. All animals euthanized must be destroyed and no part may be retained for any purpose. ( side note, MN will NOT give permission to release ANY animals on State owned land.)
3. deals with statutes and rules on: Poisons, ID of traps, trap tending times, regulating use of traps and regulating use of snares.
4. When a nursing female is captured, it must be attempted to relocate her with the young in a suitable location.
5. The permittee shall complete an annual report, on forms provided by the DNR, and mailed by Jan 31 of each year.
This permit does not exempt the permittee from any restrictions or permit requirements of the Dept of AG, local units of Govt. or any other Govt. agency.
That's all right from my permit. So you have to check with your local Govt. to see if they have any restrictions.
The harder part is setting up as a business. You don't have to pay Sales tax on trapping, exclusion or repair work. I do Pest Control Service so I charge and pay Sales tax.
If you don't have it, get QuickBooks, for your record keeping. There is an ADC insurance guy that is highly recommended by this site. Check the archives.
Where are you at in MN? I'm friends with three others that share my service area. There is plenty of work for all of us and more I don't know. Depending on where you are, there are several MN guys on here, that may be able to offer help. Depends on who you are close to.
