Well we are making some changes to the board and would like to ask you guys what you want in a fourm and informational website. Because a industry targeted fourm and website is useless without users. The way you get users is to give folks the information you as a user want to see. So with pauls permission we want to know what kind of info you guys look for on a daily bases. (Keep it clean!). And we will try to provide the best user experience we can with the current tools we have avaiable.
I guess to make it simple you could say. If I had one website to visit everyday about the wildliife control business I would want to see?

Mike here is my opinions.

1. I really think it should have a area for new guys to ask questions. One thing that we see on this forum is the same question asked about once a week and it usually is: "How do I get started?"

If you could have that section already spelled out guys who like to help can help and the guys who don't like being bothered with that stuff can just stay out of that area.

2. New products. We are all interested in the newest and greatest gadget on the market for what we do. Would be neat to have a spot for us to post our new toys and what we think of them.

3. Classified Ads area. A lot of us like to pick up used equipment and be able to save a few bucks.

4. Maybe something for region specific help. I know that what works in Wisconsin isn't going to help the guy in Arizona very much. So if you had regional (Northeast/Southeast/South/Midwest/Northwest/Southwest) we could get more regional specific help.

Again just my opinions and I am sure some other guys will have better ideas.

EDIT: Maybe a job referral section. I know many of us get calls from people who are not even in our State. Having a place to locate an operator for them would be great as well.

Hey Nate, you really put some thought into that list. Good work and I agree wholeheartedly.

I think Nathans ideas are great but I think the biggest issue is just getting people onto the site. If you look at this site for instance, at any given time while there are hundreds of participants on the trap talk forum there are usually less than 10 on the adc forum. Iknow as far as what i do is jump around from adc to trap talk and so on. I also peek at other ADC sites and it doesnt seem there are many participants.
If a new guy finds the site and asks a question and nobody answers within a few hours I think they will move on never to return.

I think if it was setup as a magazine format of sorts with weekly updates and tips it may spark some interest. Now getting someone to keep that up weekly would probably be the biggest challenge.

Some of us that have been around awhile aren't really interested in the "how do I" threads. We might reply and offer help if the newb sounds genuine and respectful but by and large for me I'm more into industry info and personal banter.
I would like to see a section devoted to industry inside info and or politics. The risk is having it blow up if it gets popular but any activity is better than none at this point.
Also, imo ease of navigation is paramount. I hate to say it but the old format takes some work to get around.

It is the same no matter what the area, Be if fur trapping, ADC, or heck any occupation. the new folks need the basics, the ole dogs forget to tell about the basics because they are so ingrained that we do them without thinking or it is so boring that we prefer to skip over. the new guys thinks there is some magic, and the ole dogs thinks, JUST DO IT! Yet the New guy has no idea what to do LOL Then you have the 3 year guy who is starting to put things together, and thinks man I am good and the ole guy thinking I have forgot more than you know LOL Years ago Bob Noonan said to me one day when we was talking about a piece I had written for him and he was pulling his hair out trying to edit my redneck stuff, WCT days, I was feeling like I had nothing to offer, he said just remember Jonesie there will always be those who know less than you, and those who know more. but the important thing is never stop helping those that know less. that way those with more, will hopefully do the same with you. he said it prettier LOL As I just wrote this I can still hear him say it with that Maine dialog that he speaks with. For everyone to get something out of the wildlife pro net, we all have to put in. if the new guy does not ask the stupid question, they will do something stupid because of not knowing, and it hurts all of us. and we old dogs when the new guy asks the stupid question, and Yes there are stupid questions but they need to be asked anyway, we have to remember back, that is if we can from that long ago LOL and realize that if the question was asked in a respectful way as worrier put it that we should also respect them and give them a good answer, of course if they are a brown eye then tell them some lie LOL only kidding guys don't get your panties in a knot LOL Robb started the idea now it is up to others to not replace but make it better.

Very Good Useful Info. We have made some very noticable changes. Cleaned up the navigation and we are working on adding sections that you guys want. Hate to say it but i agree it was a navigational mess. We are about half way done to cleanup the site. We are also doing a membership drive with some giveawys to get some more things moving. I have great faith that we can make this a very good industry site.

Mike:
How about adding an area that has a listing for all the DNR's or
their equal partners per state so the newbies can just go to that
link and find the info they need to get started?
