So I dont know how to make the leap into full time ADC. So far I have had a great jump into ADC work since I got my license I have had pretty good success with the number of calls and finished jobs. But I am a full time pipefitter and usually working 50-60 hrs a week. So I loose a ton of work every week Because I dont have the time to take the job. My problem is I havent done it long enough to To know when the calls will slow and scared to death of the unknown. But as it stands with the number of calls I cant take every week makes me crazy knowing that I am loosing that money and the much needed Experience.

So guys any advice would be great!!

taking the leap is hard. you have a good paying job that you know is there. I left the electric company as a lineman to go full time. the first few years was rough. went from 2 big paychecks to one. and then the crash came. I made it through. some of the men I know that are in the same boat as you will hire on a part time guy to check traps and do the daytime stuff. that keeps them secure for retirement yet keeps the work going. you can only go if the numbers are where you need them to be or you are willing to cut back on the living to make it get bigger. there are a lot of ways to look at it and you will hear a lot but in the end you and if you have a family you have to make that call based on business plans and strategies.

I would give it two full years so you can see the seasonal cycles. After all these years I never did get weaned from the day job, mostly because of health insurance and the opulent lifestyle I lead. grin We like to eat at least once a day.

Every now and then this crosses my mind, ok everyday! I work as a cable repairman for the phone company, I make good money and health insurance, but the company straight out sucks. I also have a fairly successful part time adc business, growing busier every year.
Ron had more balls than I do because I am just to chicken to leave a sure thing. On the other hand I have been so busy with critter work that I run myself ragged. Last night I was pulling squirrels out of traps in the dark in a snowstorm, got home and went to bed but i am still young and i suck it up. My ultimate goal is to maybe retire early and continue working the adc job. I really would like to hire some summer help but i am not sure how to go about it or if it would even be profitable enough.

Boy it sure would be nice to have a full time job and only work 50 or 60 hours a week. That would be like a vacation.

I'd suggest you first cut back your hours as a pipe fitter to 40, if at all possible. That will free you up for WCO jobs.

Greensboro has a population of 277,000 which is kind of marginal to expect a full time living, especially if there are other operators there. I'm not sure of the customer base in the outlying areas, or if you intend to specialize in just a part of the business, or how far you're willing to travel, etc. but don't be hasty.

Okay, Dave: personal experience reveals, that, like me, you like to eat at least three times a day!
