Got my first nuisance animal call last night about 8 p.m. Lady wanted a cat out of basement. All went well.

We don't handle domestic animal calls just like animal control doesn't handle wildlife calls here in Illinois.

The nice thing about domestic calls is that we can pick and chose. If the job is close, if it could possibly lead to more business, if it doesn't include handling something unfamiliar, ( where we might be sued ) all of this needs to be taken into consideration.

In Ohio, our nuisance wild animal license does not cover cats or dogs so you just have to make sure you know what the domestic companion laws are with domestic animals if you are going to handle them.

What is unique here is that our legislators have made it so there is no such thing as a feral cat or feral dog in the state. Rather, all cats and dogs are domestic companions regardless of where they are found.

The best calls are when you don't have to make a second trip out. Congrats on your first call.

WCT has been "at it" for quite a while. Someone told me that he is also involved in wildlife control. ( Eric, ask BackwoodsCC if he is eligible for a free subscription )

I opened Windfall Wildlife Control in 1999, Bats, Birds, & More in 2003 and incorporated it in 2005, and started Professional Bat Management Solutions, a national bat management company, in 2010. With WCT Magazine I began writing a column in 2003 - 2009 and had a couple of other articles published in the magazine in 2010 before becoming editor in 2011. In 2012, WCT Group, Inc. was created to handle all of the training programs I had/was developing along with owning and publishing WCT Magazine. As for industry volunteer work, I've been Secretary and President of NWCOA, General Organizer, Vice-president, and President of the Ohio Wildlife Control Operators Association and am currently one of the Medina county organizers for the OSTA.

So as Paul said, I've been "at it" for quite a while and am kind of involved with wildlife control (specifically bat management). But compared to some others on here, I'm still in the just past newbie column.

In regard to the "free" subscription Paul is referring to, Paul donates a one year subscription to individuals that have not previously had or are currently receiving a subscription to WCT Magazine. He claims this is his way of giving back to the industry, but since Paul is a column contributor I think this is more of his way to ensure I keep taking his submission, lol. If you have never had a subscription to WCT Magazine before, message Paul for more details.
