Hello All,

How do you charge for none targeted catch? I am doing a squirrel job and I caught a rat. Since, I didn't mention non targeted catch in my pricing, I am not going to charge the client.

What do you do?

Thanks

Chuck

For me, it depends. If I'm doing a per head job I usually tell them up front that I charge for any animal caught but not always. Using the right sized trap solves a lot of non target issues.

If I caught a rat on a squirrel job they could pay me for it or have me release it on site but I would start wondering if maybe the rat wasn't part of the problem. If it's a Norway rat there's probably more than one.

Hey Chuck, sgs really nailed it. Outside of gluing a lot of hair on its tail and calling it a squirrel, talk to the customers. We get just as much for rats and we consider that a bargain. Here's what you need to do in the future: Decide what you can get away with and what you can't.
You can probably charge for ( We do ) Skunks, feral cats, opossums, rats, raccoons, woodchucks, and ex-husbands or wives.
We do not charge for the neighbor's cat, squirrels, dogs, pets, or husbands or wives that are still married to you.

What you need to do is explain this right away so that the client understands that even though the animal that you removed may not be the one that he/she saw, removing it is in his/her best interest. This is especially true in the case of skunks and exes.
