So I made the mistake of leaving the blood on the fur of 2 coyotes I had shot hunting and was wondering what a good way to get this out would be?? They will be getting shipped to NAFA or FHA anyway. Will Tumbling take it out or do I need to wash it out before I ship them. Normally I don't shoot critters so don't deal with the bloody fur.

Give them a good rubbing with borax. Will give the pelt a bit more sheen as well.

SNIPERBBB, do you put the borax in powder form on dry fur?? ordo you wet the fur ormake the borax liquid with water?

Dry(20 mule team), not quite sure I would want to be rubbing liquid borax on pelts especially with bare hands...rubbing dry borax is bad enough.

Borax does an excellent job and much less time consumming than washing. In this situation using borax I simply handed wash excessive blood clot areas, wiped the area as dry as possible with a rag then board the pelt as usual. Once the skin as dried and the fur turned out I work considerable dry borax powder into the stained areas, let set for a while and then comb and brush the borax out. Using this borax treatment method works extremely well as can be seen in the following before and after pictures. As well as removing blood stains, the borax also cleans and brightens the fur.

You can get it at most any grocery store, and it is fairly inexpensive. I buy it by the case and get a deal because my daughter works at the local grocery...LOL

If you use a big tub to clean your fur, you can re-use the borax.

peroxide and WD 40 are good at removing blood also...

why not run water over the bloody part of the fur then dry with a towel? use a fan to dry the rest of the way
