do you guys install chimney caps on old brick chimneys without a clay liner? If so would I follow the same procedures as a multiflue cap?

I attended a CT ADC seminar two years ago. One of the speakers was a chimney supply salesman. He said the laws state if you put a chimney cap on an old unlined chimney you own the chimney. Translation don't do it.

The measure of a man is what he will do when he knows he won't get caught.

thanks for the reply coondog, I was at the same seminar and remember him saying that.
I was just wondering if anyone had any other experience with this. I know most chimney companies put a metal flex pipe for the boiler, which essentially turns the chimney into a chase. It is also not cheap to have it done. I guess I was looking for an alternative temporary fix for my customer.

I have run across a few where someone used heavy gauge hardware cloth and tapcons.

The few I have done aren't caps but pans to close them off but only where the fire boxes below are already sealed.

Glad you mentioned that warrior. We have done a few permanent closures along that same line. ( And the smart people have actually added some insulation to prevent cold downdrafts )
