Man how bad do I suck? Since Christmas, I have no luck in trapping rabbits or Squirrels.

I have put the traps on squirrel highway, Near rabbit tracks and dens and nothing.

Am I really that bad? I've followed the tips from you guys, I've also followed the tips on the booklet that came with my traps, and I've watched a lot of youtubes on the subject.

So what Can I be doing wrong?

Talking cages? What are you using for bait? Is it being taken or?

I don't know about Florida but if you're talking about Michigan, with the weather we've had this winter, I would say a scoop of peanut butter dunked in birdseed in the back of the cage and then get out of the way before you're trampled by squirrels. We do the same thing with commercial bait and this year it was even hard to keep them out of rabbit traps that had no squirrel bait in them.

Thanks guys,

BigBob, I am talking versatile snares with a deer stop on them from Dakota trap lines. And full small game live traps.

BigBob, I am using corn on the cob you buy from the feed store. I am also using carrots for the rabbits.

Paul, I've tried the peanut with a saltine cracker, and no luck the snow made it mushy or the squirrels or birds ate it up too fast from the outside.

take a ball of peanut butter roll it in cracked corn and place it under the treadle in the cage trap. Use rabbit food and apples for the rabbits.

I think you need to remove the deer stops from your snares or you aren't going to have the loop closed tight enough. If it is not legal to not have deer stops, then stick to the cage trap. Also look into wooded traps for rabbits.

Thank you man, I got my first squirrel this morning, Pictures coming soon.

I got a big black squirrel with my 22 long rifle. He was about 100 yards away and I took aim, fired. I got him I am very happy, I cannot retrieve him until a few days I am hoping the pelt will still be in tact.

Why would you have to wait a few days to retrieve it? By then it will have already pass through some other hungry critter.

On another post he called it a red squirrel but posted a pic of a grey squirrel? Something seems fishy.. I think a lesson in animal ID is severely needed before you harvest a non-game species. not to mention that it is your duty to make every effort to retrieve the animal as fast as possible.

I noticed that traps were put "near dens." Why?
